Dear Tishman Center Community,

We want to express gratitude to our Tishman Center Community as we enter the new year.  Although political, ecological, and social contexts have shifted, we know climate justice requires agility and close alignment with the Environmental Justice Movement and calls for building new partnerships this next year across multiple sectors. We want to uplift intergenerational leadership and ‘call in’ environmental justice-centered collaborations within academia, philanthropy, and broader intersectional, social justice movement—to build a united front to tackle the climate crisis and amplify frontline, grassroots climate solutions.

We know immense challenges lay ahead. To sustain momentum, collectively, let's dream and plot together to flip power dynamics; we can disrupt unjust systems and innovate creative new ways of being—all while bringing joy to our day-to-day work and community spaces.

The Center is grateful to our EJ movement partners, who have worked alongside us this year to fight for climate and environmental justice. We are committed to safeguarding environmental justice through a shifting political landscape in 2025 and beyond.

We know there is a lot of work ahead. We hope this change in seasons gives you time for a well-deserved pause to restore and rest. May you arrive gently into the new year with regenerative ideas and spaces.

In Gratitude,

Tishman Environment and Design Center

EJ Disrupt Design Fellowship:
Community Updates

The 2024-2026 EJ Disrupt Design Fellows closed the year with their first in-person retreat in the California Bay Area, an experience filled with connection, reflection, and inspiration. Rooted in the values of collective care and solidarity, the EJ Fellows engaged in powerful conversations on scaling community-led climate solutions, analyzing risk, and reimagining frameworks for shared power.

This video recap, filmed and edited by Keenan Lacy-Rhodes, included grounding ceremonies with local Indigenous leaders from Sogorea Te’ Land Trust, creative visioning sessions at the University of California in Berkeley, CA, and discussions that celebrated resilience in the face of shifting political landscapes. This retreat marked the beginning of a shared journey to advance bold and transformative change.
