Collaborate to Learn!

Hello, subscribers!

Collaboration is a key part of many facets of life- domestic spheres, work spheres, and intramural spheres. In each of these contexts, collaboration can lead to deep learning!

Games give us some hints about how we can incorporate collaboration in other areas of life, and each of these approaches can promote improved learning outcomes. For example, you may turn a speaking task into a role-playing scenario, or you might add a timer to learning task to gamify and provoke learners to lean on one another. 

This week, we think through some of these lessons.

Ideas for Implementation:

This week's video may be especially helpful to sparking discussions in professional learning communities around how to incorporate more collaboration in learning experiences. Here are a few ideas for how to get started.

After watching the video...

  • Complete a collaboration audit: Work in your learning community to identify which collaborative tasks you incorporate regularly into your practice. Share ideas and tips related to best practices for implementation.
  • Conduct a critical friends session: Set one personal goal related to incorporating more collaboration in your context with a friend. Conduct 20-minute observations of one another related to the goals and debrief.
  • Ask learners to share their favorite instances of group work: Provide 10 minutes to learners in which they explain when and how they like working in groups. Use their responses to inform your articulation of your group's next collaborative activity.
