I was saddened to hear the news a couple of days ago that Dave Nichols of Custom Pearl Inlay passed away. Dave influenced many people over the years, including myself. He was a great person, artist and teacher. I have many stories from the week I spent with him in his shop in upstate New York over 10 years ago. We took pot shots at the squirrels using BB guns with scopes, swapped war stories of his time in Vietnam with the CIA, played poker with the UPS and Fed Ex delivery guys and traded many stories about our students and teaching methods. I learned how to cut and inlay pearl and other materials with Dave and now pass on to my students many of the techniques that he taught me. In Dave's memory I am including a video link below of interview I did with him when I was in his shop. RIP David Nichols.
