Former Governors’ Mansion hosts fiddler Max Wolpert


BISMARCK, N.D. – Accomplished fiddler and composer Max Wolpert will present a free lecture-recital at the Former Governors’ Mansion Friday, Feb. 28, 7 p.m. as part of the Arthur A. Link Fiddle Festival.

Blending traditional and contemporary styles, Wolpert will explore the significance of fiddle tunes in composition and music education through live performance and discussion. His talk will set the stage for the Arthur A. Link Fiddle Festival the following day, featuring a tune live composed and arranged at the event. 

Wolpert’s music is inspired by folklore, mythology, and the macabre. He has taught tunewriting workshops nationwide, encouraging collaboration among musicians of diverse styles. He is currently clinical assistant professor of composition at the University of Idaho’s Lionel Hampton School of Music.

The Former Governors’ Mansion, located at 320 E. Ave. B, Bismarck, is managed by the State Historical Society of North Dakota. Admission is free. The Former Governors’ Mansion is open by appointment and 1-5 p.m. the second combined Friday and Saturday.
