Please register with Ralphs Community Contribution Program to help our orphaned dogs. Each time you use your Ralphs Rewards card, Canine Adoption and Rescue League will receive a contribution of 1-4% on every dollar spent at Ralphs. There is no additional cost to you as part of this program.

CARL's Dog Of The Month "SMOKEY"
     
Smokey is a five-year-old black chow that was rescued from a LA shelter and went into board and train.  Smokey then was transferred to the CARL rescue.  Smokey knows many commands such as sit, lay down, roll over (when he wants to) :) and place. Smokey used to live with two other dogs and got along with them but it might be best to be the only dog in the home unless proper introductions are done. Smokey can be reactive with other male dogs so a meet and greet is necessary. A chow savvy dog parent is necessary so that Smokey can learn his place in the family.  Smokey is an active dog and loves to sniff and play on the grass and is also quite affectionate. If you would like to meet Smokey, we can make arrangements for several meetings so the two of you can get to know one another.

CARL has started planning their 25th Annual CARL Pooch Parade!  Updates will be shared in our CARL's monthly newsletter, social media sites and the Pooch Parade's website  https://poochparade.org/ . The Pooch Parade website will be updated as the plans are being finalized.  Meanwhile you can access the PP website and see what last year's 2024 CARL Pooch Parade was like.

Pooch Parade is CARL's largest annual fundraiser to raise funds to save dogs. We give medical care, meet their nutritional needs, training when needed,and loving care given by staff and volunteers alike. Our adoptable dogs are placed in pre-screened, loving and secure homes.

Handsome Otis

Today being Super Bowl, it was kind of quiet. We had Paxton, Otis and Raya. Also new
volunteer Sherlyn who is a big fan of Raya and Raya of her, helped us. Although I was happy to see Paxton, I'm sorry he is once again looking for a home. He is such a sweet loving pup. Shelbie had her hiking buddy Otis, who adores her and listens to her when she corrects him. The highlight of the day was Paxton placing his order and then patiently waiting for it to be filled. Unfortunately for me his foster didn't send him with any money so I had to front him. Thank you Shelbie and Sherlyn for helping me set up since my sister Jill feigned an injury and was unable to join us. HA We will be there March 2, April 20, May 10th and then back to the 1st Sunday of the month.

With spring on the horizon, March’s dog holidays help to keep our dogs safe as they get out in the world with National Animal Poison Prevention Week–and look ahead to summer with Professional Pet Sitters Week.

  • March 2-8: Professional Pet Sitters Week. Entrusting your pets and your home during your absence often means hiring a professional; this awareness week honors the pros who provide professional pet sitting.

  • March 16-22: National Animal Poison Prevention Week: Held the third week of March to coincide with National Poison Prevention Week.

Recycling Fundraiser
 

Please Remember To Recycle For The CARL Dogs! 


                                                                                           

We need your help. Please remember to recycle for the CARL dogs. The money we raise helps the dogs in so many ways. Many things have been funded through our recycling program. We have been able to purchase dog house heaters for the winter and misters for the summer months. We have been able to buy food for special needs dogs, provide medical, help sponsor dogs and much needed maintenance to the kennels to keep our dogs safe and happy. But we need your help as we can do so much more if you donate your recyclables.

Please separate your plastic bottles and aluminum cans and bring to the kennel. If you are unable to bring to the kennel, we can make arrangements to pick them up. You can also bring your recyclables to the CARL Boutique Thrift Store. What is good for the environment is also good for the dogs:)

Adoptions TEAM

The Adoptions Team volunteers help at the Adoption Center, Mobile Events, Private Companies events, Pet Care Center & Foster Care. We have adoption events all over Ventura County from Port Hueneme to Newbury Park. They are held on Saturdays &  Sundays at different locations. You can see the adoption events schedule on the CARL website "events calendar."

Outreach & Community Support TEAM
