Grant Opportunities for WCA Members and Community Studios

This year Washington Clay Arts awarded $10,000 in grants to help foster equitability, innovation and ceramic community. These grants are unrestricted, and there are no conditions on how they are used by the recipients.

These are not merit based awards, and are not based on artistic excellence. Washington Clay Art membership is open to all levels of interest and ability in clay.

Funding for grants provided by the many years of slow growth from membership dues. Our $25 annual fee has remained constant. I would like to thank former board members and meeting attendees for prioritizing conversations around creating financial support to our community.

Grant 1:  Under Representation Grant

Brooke Cerny

"I have always been drawn to bodies of water, as they are ever-changing and full of life. My work mimics the rhythmic dance of light and shadow that water exhibits. The flow and movement of my work directly reflects the meditative state that clay and water transport me to."

Grant 2:  Living with Disabilities

Karen Chung

"My ceramics practice is a means to connect with my breath, my body, and my heritage. My work is an extension of the cultural resilience of a post-colonial Korea and is a manifestation of my resistance against efforts to assimilate immigrants displaced by war and colonization and their descendants."

Grant 3:  Open: Impact Grant

Brooke Felix

"My pottery explores a fusion of memoryscape, intention and vision. Adding pops of color with underglaze to pay homage to the urban LA and Seattle skyline, and using an earthy red and raw clay body represents the Arizona desert."

Grant 4:  Community Clay Studios

Terracotta
Candace Baltz, Pullman

"Terracotta is committed to making pottery easily accessible for beginners of all ages and lifelong potters alike, while supporting local organizations that support and uplift feminist and marginalized communities throughout the Palouse."
