Our Meeting is Tonight

The October Newsletter is Here!

Join us tonight, October 4th, from 7-9 pm at The Neighborhood Hive (2065 E 2100 S)   We will also be broadcasting on Youtube under the Sugar House Community Council Channel - https://www.youtube.com/@sugarhousecommunitycouncil4263    We will be having a city council candidate forum with Councilwoman Sarah Young and Molly Jones.

Community news: We know the 1100 East/Highland Drive construction has been unpleasant, but please continue to support the businesses.  Sugar House Rocks will continue the third Friday of every month through October on Monument Plaza!

Message from the Mayor

Salt Lake City is in a time of remarkable growth and change, and no one feels the highs and lows of that growth every day like our Sugar House residents.

We’ve heard (and share) your concerns about the quality of Sugar House’s main arterials and aged utilities. They were badly in need of reconstruction and replacement, and we’re excited to be underway delivering those upgrades for you. But we recognize that this work, coupled with several large private developments under construction, has also created a significant inconvenience for residents and a real challenge for businesses. Unexpected situations can also sometimes extend construction even longer, like the devastating apartment fire last October and difficulty replacing fiber optic cable on Highland in recent months.

It’s a pain to drive through and navigate this work, but the end result will be streets that are safer for drivers, pedestrians, and bicyclists, utilities that are more efficient and right-sized for Sugar House today and in the future, and an atmosphere that fosters more of what we love about Sugar House – walkable and welcoming to a thriving small business economy.

In the meantime, it's more important than ever that we support the shops, bars, and restaurants we love in Sugar House during this difficult period. I hope you’ll join me in taking a little extra time to shop local and continue supporting Sugar House businesses. It will be worth it.

Erin Mendenhall

Mayor of Salt Lake City
