DURBAN GIRLS SECONDARY SCHOOL CLINCHED THE TITLE OF DUT SUPER CHEFS 2023
The Department of Consumer Sciences Food and Nutrition at the Durban University of Technology (DUT) witnessed a culinary showdown last Saturday, as 12 pairs of high school learners from DUT partner schools, competed in the final cook off at the DUT Super Chefs 2023 – Indigenous Healthy Cooking Competition. The exciting event was held on the Steve Biko campus in Durban on Saturday, 23 September 2023.
The talented super chefs finalists were all ‘spiced up’ in the aromatic competition. DUT Super Chefs 2023 was hosted by the Department of Consumer Sciences Food and Nutrition in collaboration with the DUT School Engagement Project, which is headed by Project Manager, Ms Berenice de La Croix.
DUT AND LENOVO CELEBRATE HERITAGE DAY AT ST MONICA CHILDREN’S HOME
The Durban University of Technology (DUT), in collaboration with Lenovo, celebrated Heritage Day at the St Monica’s Children’s Home on the Bluff, in Durban, on Saturday, 23 September 2023.
St Monica’s Children’s Home which is situated on the Bluff in Durban is a non-profit, non-government residential facility offering care to vulnerable children who are admitted from the entire KwaZulu-Natal region. These children are either orphaned, abandoned or at risk in their home environments and are placed at the home through a court of law.
DUT’S FOHS HELD THEIR HEALTH SCREENING PROGRAMME AT STEVE BIKO CAMPUS
The Faculty of Health Sciences at the Durban University of Technology (DUT) recently hosted a heart health screening programme on the DUT Steve Biko campus in Durban.
Dr Rosaley Prakaschandra, the senior academic lecturer in the Department of Biomedical and Clinical Technology said this programme is one of her outreach interests because cardiovascular disease is her research area. Dr Prakaschandra mentioned that during the years she noticed that the prevalence of cardiovascular risk is increasing steadily and what is worrying is that the numbers are increasing amongst young people, which is their motivation to annually run this awareness programme.
DUT’S KARATE STUDENT SEEKS YOUR HELP TO PARTICIPATE IN THE 13TH WORLD KARATE TOURNAMENT IN TOKYO, JAPAN
The Durban University of Technology (DUT) Karate coach and athlete Gugulethu Mngomezulu was recently selected from the South African tournament to participate in the 13th World Karate Tournament in Tokyo, Japan
She is one of seven women who will representing South Africa at the international event which will be hosted in Tokyo, Japan between 16 and 19 November 2023. To participate in the event, Mngomezulu needs to raise an amount of R60 000. The sport administration is assisting with payment for her visa and she has to fundraise the remaining balance for her travel. Miss Mngomezulu is appealing to the DUT community and other stakeholders to help her achieve her dreams by donating/sponsoring towards her travel.
The Durban University of Technology (DUT) approved the ENVISION2030 Living Values Framework. The five values are identified as transparency, honesty, integrity, respect, and accountability. The principles espoused are fairness, professionalism, commitment, compassion, and excellence. DUT’s Communications team, Patience Makhaye, spoke to Siyanda Mlambo, an Information and Communications Technology (ICT) graduate and intern.
Q: Kindly tell me about your role at DUT?
A: “I am an Information and Communications Technology (ICT) graduate and I am doing my internship at the institution under the department of ICT. My role is to assist the staff in information technology as I do software support, hardware support and network engineering.”
