Our Voices Kick-Off
We're excited about the Our Voices community for indigenous women and women of color* undergraduate, graduate and professional students. This fall, we'll be doing a book club and reading Money Out Loud: All the Financial Stuff No One Taught Us by Berna Anat.
Join us for the in-person launch on October 12th, from 4:00-5:30pm in Appleby Hall, Room 303. There will be light refreshments and food available. During this time, we will also be introducing the 2023 Culture Corp Gender Equity Awardees, as they prepare to create Our Voices sessions for the spring!
*Our Voices is a program by the University of Minnesota Women's Center designed to gather students of color to discuss and uplift important topics pertaining to their unique experiences, joys, and challenges. Anyone is welcome, with the recognition that this space is meant to center the stories and experiences of those that are Indigenous, Black, and/or people of color. Additionally, this space is meant to center those who have experienced or been socialized into "womanhood" including but not limited to trans and cis women, AFAB trans/nonbinary folks, gender nonconforming women, and more. Many of our topic areas confront the underlying messages of misogyny, femme-phobia, patriarchy, and binaries present in White Supremacy Culture and we hope to bring back to center those who are pushed furthest to the margins in our conversations.
