October is Investor Education Month. As the leaves turn colours, we turn our attention to helping people rake up investor education knowledge. The OSC has many activities planned. We also recently relaunched our popular education website — GetSmarterAboutMoney.ca — a helpful resource to complement Investor Education Month activities.

This week is World Investor Week — a global campaign raises awareness about the importance of investor education. It is led by the International Organization of Securities Commissions. The OSC and the Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF) are co-coordinators of Canada’s campaign. This year’s campaign focuses on three themes: investor resilience, crypto assets, and sustainable finance.

Environmental, social and governance (ESG) investing is on a lot of people’s minds. But what does it mean? Watch our new video to learn more.

The launch of new GetSmarterAboutMoney.ca was covered by many multicultural outlets. The OSC held an investor education and outreach event to share information about the new site in Mandarin, Cantonese, Hindi and Punjabi. Details were also shared about InvestingIntroduction.ca — a website available in 22 languages.

Media outlets with stories about new GSAM included: Fairchild TV, CCPeople.ca, HRTT, CC News, Global Chinese Convergence Media, North American Canadian Voice, Chinese Canadian Times, SuperLife, You Know News, and CCTV Medium.

The OSC hosted more than 400 guests from various fields across Canada for the OSC  Roundtable: Strengthening diversity in our capital markets on September 14. OSC CEO Grant Vingoe and OSC General Counsel Naizam Kanji moderated a discussion focusing on the CSA’s diversity consultation.

• The OSC alleges multiple breaches of securities law by an offshore crypto asset trading platform.
• The CSA provided an update on proposed amendments to modernize the continuous disclosure requirements for non-investment fund reporting issuers that were published for comment in May 2021.
• The OSC announced the membership of the Investment Funds Technical Advisory Committee for the 2023-2025 term.
• Canadian securities regulators adopted a business conduct rule for derivatives dealers and advisers.
• Canada’s Ombudsman for Banking Services and Investments (OBSI) is currently seeking nominations to fill four expected vacancies in March, 2024 — Call for Director Nominations.
