The Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) Division of Teaching and Learning will hold office hour sessions to provide guidance and support to local education agencies (LEAs) regarding DC Law 23-191 Addressing Dyslexia and Other Reading Difficulties Amendment Act of 2020 legislation. Members of the OSSE team will be available to answer questions and provide direct technical assistance to LEAs regarding the implementation of this legislation. Please see details below for each available session:
 
Monday, Oct. 16th from 11 a.m.-12 p.m.: Dyslexia Office Hours Session 3
  • The focus of this session will be compliance requirements, including the mandated compliance letters and an opportunity to meet our Dyslexia Specialist, Dustin Tamsen. Register here.

 Updated Dyslexia Approved Screener List
The OSSE Dyslexia DC landing page offers an overview of DC Law 23-191. Addressing Dyslexia and Other Reading Difficulties Amendment Act of 2020. You can now find the most recently published 2022-23 OSSE Approved Universal Screener and the Universal Literacy Screener Guidance on the dyslexia landing page. For questions, please contact Dustin Tamsen, OSSE's Dyslexia Specialist, at Dustin.Tamsen@dc.gov.  
  
Dyslexia Awareness Module - Required for K-12 Educators    
OSSE is pleased to make available a three-part dyslexia awareness module that will focus on the characteristics and identification of dyslexia; understanding and recognizing reading difficulties; and implementation of instruction that is systemic, cumulative, explicit, diagnostic, multi-sensory and evidence-based to meet the educational needs of students with reading difficulties as required by D.C. Code §§ 38-2581.02 and 38-2581.03. This interactive course is required for all educators serving grades kindergarten through grade 12. Participants can earn up to 16 professional learning units (PLUs) for completion of all three modules. Delivering Education Services to English Learners- Step 3B: Placement and Services 

OSSE is pleased to announce a new English learner (EL) programming and policy series, Delivering Services to English Learners. This series is designed for all school leaders and local education agency (LEA) EL points of contact (POCs) in grades pre-K through 12. These 45-minute virtual sessions are an overview of OSSE’s publication Delivering Education Services to English Learners Policies and Procedures for Administrators, Instructional Leaders, and Teachers in the District of Columbia.  

This session is the third in the eight-part series, during which participants will be able to understand legal requirements for serving all English Learners, including dually identified students, and reflect on their LEA’s practices to ensure equity in schools for English learners and immigrant youth. Restorative Justice Fall 2023 Professional Development

 

 
This Fall, RestorativeDC is focusing on professional development and planning opportunities to help DC educators with Restorative Practices during this school year. Sessions will be conducted in person and coaching sessions offered virtually.

Meet the OSSE Educator Licensure Team!

Virtual Office Hours for ECIS Technical Support
The OSSE Educator Licensure Technical Support Team hosts virtual office hours for all individuals who require technical support to access and/or use the ECIS V2.0 online system to apply for a DC educator credential. These sessions are intended for individuals who require assistance with issues related to logging in, creating a new application, uploading documents, payment submission and other account access issues. You will need to provide information to the OSSE team about your ECIS technical support issues in advance of this session. Please fill out this form to receive to ticket number.


PLEASE NOTE: These office hours are specifically for ECIS technical support. If you have questions or need support in other areas of the licensure process, please visit the OSSE educator credentialing website or email OSSE.asklicensure@dc.gov

You can also follow these steps to access the ECIS application online:
  1. Open an incognito or private window in your web browser (e.g., Chrome, Edge, etc.)
  2. Copy and paste this link into the incognito window https://octo.quickbase.com/db/bkdy85kmw  and click Sign in.
  3. Click NO when asked, do you have an OCTO corporate username.
  4. Sign in using the same personal email that you previously registered with as your username.
  5. If necessary, use the I forgot my password link to reset it.
  6. Go to your “My Apps” page. Above your search bar, click the “Adv. Search” link. That link will open a different search bar. Type in ECIS, and the application will appear for you to access. 
If these steps do not work for you, please attend one of the virtual office hours ECIS sessions at your convenience.
