We Are Seeking a Few More Workshop Leaders

We have 52 wonderful Girl Scout volunteers who are offering 72 workshops at Discoveree 2024. We are looking for about 10 more workshops.

If you are a first aid trainer, we would love to hear from you! First aid is our most popular workshop and we would like to offer this workshop multiple times.

Here are some ideas for workshops that we think would be fun and that are not currently being offered:

Yoga/Meditation/Self Care
Spa Crafts
Charcuterie Board Preparation
Hydro Dipping
Mandalas

But we are happy to take any workshops you might want to offer.

A few things to know:

Workshop leaders get free admission to Discoveree and can take workshops in the sessions they are not leading a workshop.
Workshop leaders get a free lunch and free parking.
Craft and food workshops get reimbursed for materials.
You get to set the size of your workshop and have a say about what session it's offered.

Childcare at Discoveree - Still Looking for Input

Remember those evaluations? We do read them! A number of you requested that we offer childcare at Discoveree. The committee is considering finding an older girl troop to offer childcare onsite as a money-earning activity. A donation to the troop would be expected if you take advantage of this service. The Discoveree committee is trying to determine the level of interest in this service. We would love to hear from you! The committee will make a decision on October 10th.

If you volunteer with a Service Unit Team, we would greatly appreciate it if you would share the date of Discoveree 2024 with your volunteers. To make that easy, here is a slide/graphic you can share out with your volunteers.

Leader Feature: NEW Mental Wellness Patches

GSUSA partnered with the National Association for Mental Illness (NAMI) to develop patches to help Girl Scouts understand this important issue. These patches are targeted at Girl Scout Juniors through Ambassadors.

To get the patch activities, go to the GSUSA Mental Wellness Patch website. From the GSUSA press release:

Knowing My Emotions for Girl Scout Juniors - "This patch program teaches Girl Scout Juniors positive coping skills and how to name their feelings. "

Finding My Voice for Girl Scout Cadettes -
"Girl Scout Cadettes learn about stigma, helping friends, how to be mindful on social media and how to practice self-care."

Showing Up for Me and You for Girl Scout Seniors and Ambassadors -

"This patch program equips Girl Scout Seniors and Ambassadors with tactics for practicing self-care as well as coping mechanisms on how to handle difficult situations for themselves and others. "

Spreading the Word: Activities for Older Girls

Occasionally we hear about council-wide activities open to adults and girls and we are happy to help spread the word.

Holiday Extravaganza - A weekend of crafting to create handmade gifts perfect for gifting during the holiday season. This event is open to Cadettes, Seniors and Ambassadors and their friends! And best of all, this is not a troop-organized event (the chaperones, cooks, and workshop leaders are Girl Scout Alumnae). So please share this opportunity with your Girl Scouts. Voices for Change - Calling all Cadettes, Seniors and Ambassadors who are interested in how governance works. Voices for Change banner with dates

Voices for Change is a program held at Camp Bothin that will help girls learn how things get done in Girl Scouts, in our country and around the world. This year's focus is Global Governance. We are seeking older girls interested in planning the event and asking girls to save the date. If you would like to be part of the planning team, please contact Eavan Huth at ehuth@gsnorcal.org.
