Wildfires and Droughts and Floods, Oh My!
A concerned group of area high school students gathered this past Saturday to talk about Climate Change and its impacts on our world, country, state, and city. After a short slideshow of images showing extreme weather effects all over the world from just this year so far, those in attendance talked about their concerns. We watched a hopeful video from RetroReport (www.retroreport.org) highlighting the global effort and success to heal the Ozone layer and compared that triumph to today's roadblocks towards lowering CO2 emissions, reducing plastic production, and other known, harmful contributors to Climate Change. We also spent time exploring individual ways to reduce our footprints and considering cities, including St. Louis, that might be safer climate havens in the future. One thing that was abundantly clear to the Civitas staff: this generation of high school students knows the facts and is prepared to make a difference moving forward with this colossal problem they inherited.

The Country Draft for Civitas Model UN is ONE week from Saturday!

High School Model UN Sessions A & C are now full. If your school is participating, the only option remaining is Session B from 1:30-4:30 on Saturday, November 18.
The Country Draft is Saturday, October 7 from 10:00 am until noon in Browning Auditorium at Webster University. All students are encouraged to attend the Country Draft, although just one representative from a school is required to attend with a list of countries for your school's group. We'll have a brief opening presentation about global happenings on draft day and next steps for preparing for your session, followed by a few rounds of trivia (with prizes) before dividing into sessions to draft for countries.

2nd Republican Presidential Debate Tomorrow Night
During each national election cycle, Civitas has presidential debate watch parties. It's a little early in this quadrennial cycle, but we wanted to give you a head's up that the second Republican debate of 2023 is this Wednesday, evening, at 8:00 PM, Central Daylight Time. It will be broadcast on Fox Business Network and Univision. Candidates will stand in the shadow of a retired Air Force One plane at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, California.
The third debate will be on Wednesday, November 8. Look for Civitas to have a watch party in 2024 when some clarity in the race may evolve.
