Neighbors,

As many of you know, we have officially started the first ever Participatory Budgeting program in 30th Ward history! We are one of only a few Aldermanic offices that do this in the whole city, so this is an exciting and unique opportunity.

The first three town halls went great! Thank you to everyone who came and participated. The top 5 categories that were selected for improvements were:

Schools

Crosswalks / Pedestrian Safety

Bike Lanes / Bike Safety

Police Cameras

Tree Plantings / Beautification

We are now entering the next stage of the process, which involves:

1) Specific Idea Collection

2) Developing a Community Representative Board.

In this email, you will find a link to a questionnaire where you can provide your vote on how much money will go towards streets/alley resurfacing, as well as what specific ideas you have for the five categories above.

PLEASE NOTE: If you participated in any of the previous 3 town halls, you are ineligible to vote again in the questionnaire. However, you are still encouraged to send your specific ideas on ward improvements to our 30th ward email below.

You can sign up to be a Participatory Budget Community Representative in that link, or you can email us at ward30@cityofchicago.org or call my office at 773-628-7874 to let us know that you are interested.

Thank you all for helping make history in the 30th Ward and the City of Chicago!

Sincerely,

Ruth Cruz

Participatory Budgeting Questionnaire

Participatory Budgeting Background

Participatory Budget is a democratic process by which community members decide how to spend part of a public budget. Residents work together to generate ideas about improvements they’d like to see in the 30th Ward, then vote on which project they wish to see funded.

How would you like $1 million dollars to be used to improve our community?
