🍁 VHL Multisystem COVID
I got COVID for the first time last month. I was kind of surprised that I didn’t get it earlier because of my risk factors. I practiced the “normal” preventative things (mask, hand washing, distancing, vaccines, etc.) and I understood that VHL syndrome or disease patients are not more prone (less immunity) to COVID in general. ** But, doesn’t it also depend on which disease(s) or manifestation(s) you have within the multi-system disease (e.g. adrenal insufficiency and medication levels)? What are your individual responses?

My risks and protective strategies include:
I have zero kidneys and this end stage kidney disease (EKSD) lowers immunity***
I stick to getting my full dialysis and medications
__
High risk environment daily. Even through the lock-down, I had to go to my dialysis clinic /treatment at the hospital (if I skip, this definitely leads to morbidity and mortality) and COVID breakouts in the clinic (patients, nurses, staff and other departments)
Practice standard prevention and try to be extra careful
__
ESKD can cause all kinds of side effects. High blood pressure, low hemoglobin (?), eating/drinking and exercising… and
Stress of overall diagnosis of chronic illness and reoccurring treatments, tests, symptoms…
Follow my role in treatment plan (diet, fluid, medications, exercise, self-care…)
__
* The immune system protects the body from possibly harmful substances by recognizing and responding to antigens…
** VHL in the COVID Era: Management Approaches and Modifications
*** People with kidney disease and other severe chronic medical conditions are at higher risk for more severe illness
**** The hospital does everything to ensure safety
