As we embrace summer turning to fall, we find ourselves reflecting on an action-packed September. We've been thrilled to have so many chances to connect with partners on the ground over the work they are passionate about-- from a tour of recreation opportunities at the Tollgate area, to the Power Eastern Oregon Summit at Anthony Lakes, to the Oregon Travel and Tourism Alliance meeting in Pendleton. Looking ahead to the upcoming events and conferences this month, we look forward to the opportunity to connect and learn with many of you!

Eastern Oregon Tourism Leader Call
Monday, October 16, 12pm - 1pm

We are excited to be starting up bi-monthly calls for our region’s tourism leaders. 

The purpose of this call is to build connections, share resources, and align efforts to effectively develop and promote Eastern Oregon as a visitor destination. Topics may include collaborative marketing, seasonal messaging priorities, and coop funding opportunities.

If you are involved with the planning and marketing of tourism in your community, this call is for you! Whether you work at a DMO, a chamber, a municipality, main street organization, economic development district or are part of a volunteer committee, your presence and insights are valuable. We understand that folks may have varying levels of experience in tourism– all are welcome!

Oregon Destination Association Conference
January 17-19,  Newberg

Join Oregon’s tourism industry leaders, your DMO|RDMO destination colleagues, the Oregon Destination Association (ODA) Board of Directors, and Host Destination – Taste Newberg, at the 2024 ODA Annual Conference at The Allison Inn & Spa.

ODACon is designed specifically for the leaders of Oregon’s local, regional and state Destination Organizations. Conference content will focus on DMO best practices offering engaging and interactive sessions, peer to peer networking, industry leadership development, and stewardship advocacy priorities.

Thanks to the generous Host Destination and Sponsors, all content sessions, meals and off-site excursions are included in the ODACon registration fee.

The Oregon Heritage annual Fall Workshop series for 2023 aims at removing the stigma and fear around organizational planning by providing support and a pathway for organizations who’d like to embark on goal-setting journeys or establishing workplans for projects and organizational priorities. This interactive workshop will lay stepping stones for where to begin on this process, especially when and where resources are limited for creating or executing a full-strategic plan, or there is hesitation or fear around that process.

Walla Walla Valley Tourism Workspace
November 14 & 15

Our neighbors over the state line at Visit Walla Walla are conducting a valley-wide tourism planning effort, including the community of Milton Freewater. If you live or work in this region, you are welcome to attend to help identify strategies to improve the visitor experience and enrich the local and regional economies.

Tourism Learning Lab
November 15 & 16

This ‘Introduction to Tourism Development’ learning lab will be held in person at the Vue venue in downtown Corvallis. The audience for this event is new tourism industry members who have been leading and coordinating tourism development, management, and stewardship projects for four years and under. There is no cost to register – but space is highly limited. Registration is required.

AmeriCorps VISTA: Request for Concept Papers

Founded in 1965, Volunteers in Service to America (VISTA) is a federal anti-poverty national service program designed to provide resources to nonprofit organizations and public agencies to address poverty and poverty-related problems in the United States. AmeriCorps VISTA is seeking project applications for programming in any of the five following focus areas:

Monitoring and managing your Google Business Profile (GBP) is one of the best ways to improve your visibility and conversion. To help make managing your GBP easier, Travel Oregon partnered with Portland-based company Locl to provide you (free!) access to a suite of GBP optimization tools. Locl helps businesses manage profile updates, create events and offers, engage with customer reviews, monitor business performance and act on insights – all in one place and for every location + is connected to Travel Oregon's listing database (which also connects to VistiEasternOregon.com), which means one update - multiple platforms populated!
