Restoring the Bones of 100-year-old Seattle Yacht Club

Seattle Yacht Club’s building has weathered a century of storms and rain, so it was time to see what lies beneath the outer skin for restoration. The challenge? The Old Grand Dame is on the National Historic Register, so it can have no significant exterior changes. SYC Architect and Club member John Brenneis describes how SYC began to undertake this project.

Annapolis Yacht Club Hosts Breezy US Women’s Match Racing Championships

Three days of racing marked by variable breeze and a range of weather patterns challenged the racing skills and mental toughness of the top sailors racing in the US Women’s Match Racing Championships at the Annapolis Yacht Club on August 18-20, making for an exciting event. 
Winners Announced at the 59th Rolex Big Boat Series

Variable sailing conditions hounded this year’s 79-strong Rolex Big Boat Series fleet, racing out of St. Francis Yacht Club in San Francisco, CA, but the competition was as fierce as ever for the 59th edition of the West Coast’s premier racing event. The unpredictability influenced the leaderboards daily, with shifts across most of the eight classes competing. Even the most seasoned RBBS competitors had to work hard to earn points. But, that’s sailboat racing! 
True Spirit Reigns at the Half Ton Classics Cup

The spirit of the Half Ton Classics Cup, held by the Royal Norwegian Yacht Club (KNS) and the Half Ton Class of Norway, in close cooperation with the Hankø Yacht Club, reigned both on the water in stiff competition, and on land, showcasing the camaraderie found among Norwegian Halftonner class sailors. 
The Future of Sailing Competed in the 29er European Championships — Plus a Season Recap!

The Royal Swedish Yacht Club (KSSS) clubhouse, located in Saltsjöbaden, hosted a successful 29er European Championship, with 175 young sailors from 24 nations handling their boats extremely well in tricky conditions. The club was also proud to host the world’s largest annual offshore race, the “Gotland Runt,” as well as the Stockholm City Hall 100 Years Jubilee Regatta. 
Hamburg Sailors Defend Title at the Inclusion World Championship

The Inclusion World Championship hosted in Rostock, Germany, by Norddeutscher Regatta Verein (NRV) remained exciting until the very end, with some sailors not realizing they had won until they were ashore. While races were close and the competition stiff, the regatta embraced inclusivity. 
Repeat Winners at 2023 ORC World Champions

After six days of racing the ORC World Championships in Kiel, Germany, with changeable conditions ranging from storms to flat breezes and many re-calculations during 10 races of varying length, these yachts have swept the titles of the ORC Worlds 2023. 
Platoon Wins World Championship Title in the TP52 Class by One Point

In a riveting race, Norddeutscher Regatta Verein member Harm Müller-Spreer secured the 2023 Rolex TP52 World Championship title with a thrilling comeback in the final minutes of the last race off Barcelona. 
Royal Vancouver Yacht Club Competes in the 6M World Championships

Royal Vancouver Yacht Club Members Brian Tait and Reigh North traveled far to compete in the 2023 International Six Meter World Championships at Cowes, Isle of Wight. As the only Canadian competitor, the team proudly represented the RVYC against some of the top yacht clubs in the world. 
Peace, Love and the Dutch Shoe Marathon

The Dutch Shoe Marathon invited hundreds of juniors and adults to more than just a regatta. It celebrates tradition, fosters generational sailing, and promotes the future of the sport we all love. This year, San Diego Yacht Club and Coronado Yacht Club co-hosted the event with pride while looking back over 50 years of the Dutch Shoe Marathon. 
Recap from the IQFoil U21 Worlds and Swiss Windsurfing Championships 2023

Teen Sophia Meyer of Verein Seglerhaus am Wannsee in Berlin, Germany, took on many windsurfer competitors in the Swiss Alps, placing 5th overall in the IQFoil U21 World Championship and winning the women’s division in the Swiss Windsurfing Championship regatta
