🍁 Screening requests to join online group and chat
We use facebook.com for online support activities. The group was created on May 23, 2015. VHL Canada Peer Community
New requests to join are “screened” briefly. Mainly, we just want to confirm that they are a VHL patient or a family member who lives in Canada.** You have to answer Basic questions and agree to simple group rules (guidelines).*** Requests are followed up with a message.
Since Sept. 22/22: 5 requests have been “approved” and 5 others have not and haven’t responded to further contact attempts (some are from different parts of the world, others are vague)

*** Basic Questions:
- Hello, are you a VHL patient or a family member in Canada?
- What are you hoping to get AND/OR give (share) by joining this group?
- Please answer all questions, required for group safety and agreement, and briefly connect with Henry or a moderator!
*** group rules:
- Keep what is said in the group confidential
- Ask people if they want advice or a suggestion before you give it.
- Know that some peers (patients and family members) can be very intense and goal-oriented.
- Understand that people in the group will be at different stages
- Expect that you may not always get a chance to talk as much as you want
- Realize that you don't have to like everyone in the group
- Be aware of the Peer Support Volunteer’s role and responsibilities (see attachment)
- Realize that peer support groups cannot solve personal problems
