Invitation to tender: Comparative analysis and experience with energy efficiency in the Nordics

Nordic Energy Research invites applicants to apply for the tender Comparative analysis and experience with energy efficiency in the Nordics.

Energy efficiency is on top of the political agenda – reducing energy consumption and energy waste across the energy system in all economic sectors is one of the EU's strategic objectives. Therefore, the study aims to map past and present energy efficiency activities in Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Iceland, and the Faroe Islands, and to identify central barriers for Nordic energy efficiency. In addition, the study will investigate to what extent the projects or activities align with the energy efficiency agenda in the Nordic countries and support the EU principle of energy efficiency first

Submission deadline is 18 October 2023 at 13:00 (CET).

Nordic Hydrogen Valleys Conference 2023

On 45 October, the Nordic Hydrogen Valleys Conference will take place in Reykjavík, Iceland. By building on the five projects within the Nordic Hydrogen Valleys as Energy Hubs programme, the conference will connect researchers and stakeholders in the Nordics and beyond.

Joakim Lundgren, Professor at Luleå University of Technology and Project Lead of H2AMN sees several reasons why the conference benefits the energy sector.

"I think that strong collaborations in between the Nordic countries are essential to facilitate the energy transition," says Joakim.

Hydrogen HOPE for the Nordics – shipping as a frontrunner

The project Hydrogen fuel cells solutions in Nordic shipping (HOPE) within the programme Nordic Maritime Transport and Energy Research has published a project summary, which clarifies how regional shipping in the Nordic region can transition to become fossil-free by means of hydrogen based marine solutions. The report includes main findings and policy recommendations for transitioning to hydrogen fuel cells solutions.

"There are several barriers for introducing hydrogen into shipping. Sufficient public economic support is needed for Nordic shipping frontrunners willing to take the lead in this area," says Julia Hansson, Project Manager of HOPE.

Meet Ragnhild Leganger, intern at Nordic Energy Research

Ragnhild Leganger is Nordic Energy Research's new intern, who says that due to her family bonds both in the windy west of Norway and the Arctic Circle, she's become immune to bad weather. Her upbringing has also spurred a great interest in the political interplay on local and international level.

"As many political science students, I was intrigued by the concept of conflict – and energy security is more than ever merged into the general security discourse. I believe this was the starting point of my overall interest in energy and its role in the just transition," says Ragnhild.
