Earning The W
This year marks the 50th year of varsity athletics at Wellesley College. Like NCAA Division III, Wellesley's varsity programs took root in 1973-74 with club and varsity competition in crew, fencing, field hockey, lacrosse, swimming & diving, tennis and volleyball. By 1979-80, Wellesley varsity programs grew to include basketball, soccer and, at the time, sailing and squash. Today, we boast 13 sports that have combined to win 68 conference championships, while five student-athletes have won seven individual NCAA titles and the Blue Crew program has won three NCAA team championships – including the last two!
We will begin that celebration with a reception and panel discussion, Earning the W: 50 Years of Varsity Athletics at Wellesley, on Saturday, October 21, 2023 during Friends and Family Weekend at Wellesley. Programming will include an informal reception followed by a panel of former student-athletes who will share stories and discuss the history of Wellesley Athletics with our current student-athletes and their families. The event is open to all current varsity and club student-athletes and their families as well as our alum student-athletes (Alums we ask that you please RSVP if you would like to attend).
