CITP’s Amna Liaqat named among Princeton’s 2023 Presidential Fellows
|
|
Congratulations to CITP researcher Amna Liaqat — one of 11 Presidential Postdoctoral Research Fellows at Princeton University. The program recognizes the contributions of scholars across science, engineering, social science and the humanities. Liaqat’s research focus is on building technologies that help people connect, collaborate and learn. Last year her paper "With a hint she will remember": Collaborative Storytelling and Culture Sharing between Immigrant Grandparents and Grandchildren Via Magic Thing Designs was published in the November 11 Association for Computing Machinery journal series "Proceedings of the ACM on Human-Computer Interaction." Her advisor is CITP associated faculty member Andrés Monroy-Hernández, assistant professor of computer science. CITP-Stanford Workshop Tackles Open Foundation Models

Researchers from CITP and Stanford’s Center for Research on Foundation Models teamed up this month for a virtual workshop on the responsible development and use of open foundation models. Foundation models are the centerpiece of modern artificial intelligence, but they also introduce risks if they are adopted at scale, which has prompted some policymakers to call for harsh restrictions. The question of if and how to regulate open foundation models has become central to ongoing negotiations over AI regulation.
|
|
CITP is now accepting applications for the 2024-25 cohort of our in-residence, fully-funded Fellows Program. This competitive program offers three tracks: postdoctoral research associate, visiting professional and Microsoft Visiting Professor. Applicants may apply to one or more tracks. Visit our Fellows Program page for application details. The application deadline is 11:59 p.m. (EST) on Friday, December 1, 2023. Applications submitted after the deadline will be considered only if the position has not been filled.

- Andy Guess, assistant professor of politics and public affairs, coauthored two papers that examined social media during the 2020 election that were published the research journal Science.
- Measuring the monetization strategies of websites with application to pro- and anti-vaccine communities, a paper coauthored by Jacob N. Shapiro, Princeton professor of politics and international affairs and CITP associated faculty member, and Kevin T. Greene, a Princeton associate research scholar, was published in the research journal Scientific Reports.

- NASA’s Mars rovers could inspire a more ethical future for AI, an article about AI ethics authored by Janet Vertesi, a Princeton University associate professor of sociology and CITP associated faculty member, was published in The Conversation.
- Donald Trump and the Lie, an article coauthored by Rory Truex, a Princeton University associate professor of politics and international affairs and CITP associated faculty member, was published in Political Science Now, a publication of the American Political Science Association.
