Call for Abstracts
MW CTR-IN Program Annual Meeting
Westin Hotel Las Vegas - Jan 30-31, 2024
The MW CTR-IN invites you to submit an abstract for presentation at the annual meeting. Abstracts will be considered for either oral or poster presentation. The abstracts should be focused on clinical and translational research, with priority on health disparities research in the Mountain West region. Accepted abstracts from previous pilot project grantees (with no current active grants) may submit request for funding support to cover only airfare and hotel accommodations.

Rebusmission is the norm, and grant applications are a repeat process. In this presentation, you will learn what your options are and how to interpret the critiques of your grant application to prepare for resubmission.

Responsible Conduct of Research is a required training for undergraduate students, graduate students, and postdoctoral researchers supported by NSF and NIH awards. This workshop fulfills the requirements for formal RCR instruction. It is an NIH requirement that all BLaST Mentors, Scholars, UREs, and other funded projects participate in RCR training.
This training is a two-part training:
- Part I - Complete an online CITI Training module
- Part 2 - Participate in RCR training.
- You must complete both parts to receive your RCR certificate.

AK UNiTE COHORT 2: AK UNiTE is an NSF Funded Research Coordination Network in Undergraduate Biology, seeking to provide researchers with mentorship support. AK UNiTE aims to expand the ability of Alaskan students, particularly historically marginalized groups, to participate in biological research in Alaska. Cohort 2 is for individuals interested in inclusive mentoring from October 2023 to April 2024. Participants who join this cohort will be supported in discovering, learning, and incorporating effective and inclusive mentoring practices, with participants coming from Tribal entities, non-profit organizations, government agencies, and academic institutions. Specific Activities: AKUNiTE will host three virtual meetings for the entire cohort: a kickoff, midway check-in, and final share-out:
- The week of Oct 16, 2023 - potentially morning (AKDT) of the 17th, but will ultimately depend on the availability of the cohort members
- The week of January 22, 2024
- The week of April 8, 2024
- Funding is available for up to $2000 for each cohort member per year of participation. Resources to support mentorship training such as books, supplies, registration for training (class, conference), etc. Application deadline is Oct 11, 2023. NRMI West Region Workshop 2023 - Oct 24-25, 2023 @ Las Vegas
Registration for the 2023 Network of Minority Health Research investigators (NMRI) West Region Workshop is now open. Open to underrepresented minority investigators, including post-graduate doctoral students, who are conducting biomedical research. The meeting will include mentorship, poster presentations, and scholarly exchange among field leaders. Participants are encouraged to submit abstracts. Visit the meeting page for more information. NCURA Webinar: NIH Date Management & Sharing Policy - Budgeting and Application Tips and Tricks (or Treat?) - Oct 30, 2023 @ 2-3:30pm EST (10-11:30am AKST) - Register here The new NIH Data Management and Sharing (DMS) Policy, effective January 25, 2023, requires a Data Management and Sharing Plan (DMS Plan) for ALL NIH-funded projects that generate scientific data. Join us for a discussion of strategies to support researchers in confidently navigating the requirements of this new policy and opportunities to optimize the efficiency of institutional processes while maintaining compliance. We will also discuss common costs associated with data management and sharing activities and approaches for working with researchers to develop realistic budgets for implementing their DMS Plans.

2023 ITHS Pilot Program Awards: Apply Now Since 2008, ITHS has offered funding for new clinical and translational research projects or “pilots” to get off the ground. Investigators from across the five-state WWAMI (Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, Idaho) region are encouraged to apply.
Maximizing Investigators' Research Award (MIRA) Program for Early Stage Investigators - NIGMS has announced that the Maximizing Investigators’ Research Award (MIRA) notice of funding opportunity for early stage investigators (ESIs) (PAR-23-145) has been reissued. MIRA funding provides support for an area of research in an ESI’s laboratory that falls within the NIGMS mission. The next application due date is October 3, 2023.
AIM-AHEAD Call for Proposals
The NIH's Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning Consortium to Advance Health Equity and Researcher Diversity (AIM-AHEAD) program has established mutually beneficial, coordinated, and trusted partnerships to enhance the participation and representation of researchers and communities currently underrepresented in the development of AI/ML models and to improve the capabilities of this emerging technology, beginning with electronic health records (EHR) and extending to other diverse data to address health disparities and inequities.
