A LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT...
Friends,

As we head into the fall, so much takes place in our philanthropic world. Many of us have appeals to write, parties to plan and the holidays to spend with our families. It is during this time I begin to reflect on how thankful I am for my family, health and what the future holds.

The AFP Greater Tri-State Chapter is also ramping up for fall. We have educational sessions scheduled, National Philanthropy Day and a winter social. As members and non-members, there are plenty of opportunities to become engaged with our chapter.

Another opportunity you will read more about in this issue is the Chamberlain Scholarship. The Chamberlain Scholarship program honors Ralph E. Chamberlain, CFRE. Mr. Chamberlain had a long distinguished career of service with AFP. When he died in 1999, AFP took notice to the generosity he had towards AFP International and the Foundation, thus the Chamberlain Scholarship was formed. This scholarship provides one member of our local AFP Chapter to attend AFP ICON. ICON is the annual conference for fundraising professionals and in 2024 will be held in Toronto Canada. I was so fortunate to be awarded this scholarship in 2008 and attended the conference in 2009. This opportunity furthered my knowledge and understanding of philanthropy. If you have not been the recipient of this scholarship in the past, I encourage you to apply.

2023 has been an eventful year for AFP and our Board of Directors. We meet bimonthly as a full board and the opposite months as an executive board. Our dedicated members are the key to our growth and transformation. To each of you that have made an impact on AFP; members and nonmembers, thank you. Thank you for being supportive of the AFP Greater Tri-State Chapter and thank you for engaging in our community. You make the Tri-States a better place to live.

If you or someone you know is interested in learning more about our membership or board opportunities, please reach out to me or anyone on our board. We can walk you through the steps to become a member or a leader in this chapter. We are currently seeking nominations for the board. Please send any nominations to me at karen@dbqpbvms.org.

Otherwise, as we continue to grow as individuals and as a chapter, I wish you all the very best this fall with your family, friends and of course those campaigns that are the backbone of every nonprofit. I am thankful for each and every one of you!
By the way, what are you thankful for??

With gratitude,

Karen Ann Tuecke, MBA, CFRM, bCET

Recurring donors are the most commonly overlooked segment for many organizations. Recurring giving is when a donor elects to make a regular, ongoing donation to your organization instead of a one-time gift. There are some basic and simple principles a fundraiser can use in order to maximize the potential for recurring donors. Attend this session to learn more ways to address and talk to your benefactors about recurring giving.
