10:00 am to 4:00 pm
Join us on October 14 for a day filled with fun and informative Earth science activities for parents, children, and science enthusiasts of all ages.
At Open House you can:
- Get your hands dirty: create your own volcanic eruptions, learn about Earth dynamics with bathtub science, and find out what lies beneath the ocean in the JOIDES Resolution research vessel pop-up encounter.
- Attend a talk: scientists will share research and discoveries through lectures, panels, and tours.
- Take a test: bring paint or soil samples from home to test for lead, and try sampling water for microplastics.
- Listen to the Earth: at the Seismic Sound Lab, you can experience the sights and sounds of earthquakes.
- Get into the lab: check out cores, rocks and sediments taken from beneath the ocean floor in the Core Repository, and discover the stories trees can tell us in the Tree Ring Lab.
- Explore your artistic side: visit the Hope Symbol Project art exhibit, and get creative with polar puzzles.
- And much, much more!
Open House is free and open to the public, with a $5 suggested donation.
Please note that most activities are outside, and will be held rain or shine. For the most up-to-date information about exhibits, parking, the free shuttle from New York City, campus accessibility, and more, please visit our website.
