Come out to Valdese Lakeside Park and join the Celebration - just 0.2 miles from the parking lot. There will be fishing demos from the Draughn High School Fishing Team, chances to try a kayak from Valdese business Rads Rentals LLC, crafts from FVR (build a boat and decorate a wood fish) and Foothills Conservancy, educational materials on fishing, types of fish and more from NCWRC. The $200K ADA pier was funded by community donations, PARTF and NCWRC. https://www.facebook.com/events/6381351188633565
We have placed a fishing themed book on the Story Book Trail in honor of the Fishing Pier Ribbon Cutting this Thursday at 1pm. Take the kids to read it while you are at the park!
Volunteers!!
Lots of volunteer activity this month. Sam and Johnny (pictured) weeded/cut the grass on the entire 2 mile greenway. They also weed-eated other trail areas, installed two benches, added gravel around benches and plenty more.
This group cleaned the kayak launch area of trash and debris - Beth, Eric, Laura, Jim, Sam, Val and Marti (taking pic).
And, we have been doing some work at McGalliard Falls. Will converted monkey bars into a cool arch with Sam's help. They are starting another arch at the greenway entrance. Rose, Beth, Linda B, Spence, Tom, Johnny, Eric cleared brush, installed benches and more.
We keep account listings of our donations. We will use your money as you wish! Examples include:
General Fund – This fund enables us to offer fun stuff (Picnic at VLP, Fun at the Falls, Conservation Kids), Educational Programs (Tech Sessions, Living Wills) and projects (trees at Splash Park, scorer’s tables at Fletcher Field) - and keeps us in operation
Valdese Lakeside Park – Signage, Picnic tables, benches, etc
