Dear Roadrunners,
At COD, we are committed to celebrating the success of our students, faculty, and organizations. It brings me great pleasure to recap my first 90 days as your Interim President.
During this time, I have had the privilege of witnessing a remarkable transformation within our college, and it is with immense pride that I share some of the highlights of my initial months in this role.
The most encouraging development has been the positive upswing in our enrollment rates! Your enthusiasm for learning and growth at COD is inspiring and reinforces the importance of the work we do together.
My vision for College of the Desert is to enhance accessibility, ensuring that students from diverse backgrounds have increased opportunities to participate in campus activities. It is with this vision in mind that I have been actively working to secure grants for COD students who dedicate a minimum of 450 hours to volunteer at FIND Food Bank. This initiative is designed to provide our students with the necessary resources to thrive while fostering a spirit of community service.
Perhaps one of my favorite accomplishments is the launch of my listening tour. This initiative exemplifies my dedication to forging strong partnerships that benefit both COD and the wider community. I'm thrilled to report that each session has been met with resounding success, with attendees expressing their gratitude for the chance to share their experiences and ideas. I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all who have participated and shared their valuable insights.
I invite you to join me at this week's listening sessions, where we can continue to connect and explore ways to strengthen our community:
-
October 23 Cathedral City, City Hall, Study Session Room 5:30 - 6:30 p.m.
-
October 24 Indio Campus, Room 105 5:30 - 6:30 p.m.
Together, we will keep building a brighter future for College of the Desert, celebrating the success of our students and creating a campus that values inclusivity, accessibility, and active community engagement.
With sincere appreciation and enthusiasm,
Laura Hope
Interim Superintendent/President
College of the Desert
