October 2023 - Harvest your Love with BAAITS

Greetings relatives and friends,

We hope your summer was as wonderful as ours, and that you are enjoying the harvest season.  We wanted to take a moment to thank our new and continuing funders for their generous support, allowing us to fulfill BAAITS' mission: the Hewlett Foundation, the San Francisco Human Rights Commission, the California Arts Council, and the Wayfarer Foundation.

We would also like to acknowledge the members of our community for their continued volunteer support, and in particular the 2024 BAAITS Two-Spirit Powwow Committee, which is in full-force planning what will undoubtedly be an amazing 13th Annual Powwow and Week of Events! Join us for these upcoming committee meetings and many more events throughout the coming fall months.

It is with great pride that our IndigiQueer community celebrates the recent release of the short film, The Roof; the film is a beautiful Two-Spirit story and features many of our BAAITS community members. The 19-minute short from director Alexander Bocchieri is the story of a Northern Cheyenne teen who, after being sent to stay with their grandfather, discovers a connection to their family and community in a way they never thought possible. Congratulations on this wonderful and historical moment furthering Two-Spirit representation and Indigenous filmmaking! You can view the film on the Disney Channel.

DONATE to Support BAAITS
Bay Area American Indian Two-Spirits (BAAITS) is an all-volunteer organization that exists to restore and recover the role of Two-Spirit people within the American Indian/First Nations community by creating a forum for the spiritual, cultural and artistic expression of Two-Spirit people. To that end, BAAITS is committed to offering culturally relevant activities for LGBTQ+ individuals of Native American ancestry and their families and friends.
