Updated Outcomes Report

  • Delivering more affordable housing
  • Supporting investment into rural communities
  • Launching a Scotland-wide initiative to improve construction quality
  • Unlocking £2.5bn of investment in private sector development
  • Attracting investment into Scotland's EV charging network
  • Saving 15,000 tonnes of infrastructure-related CO2 emissions
These are just some of the infrastructure activities we have been leading on that feature in our updated online Outcomes Report which has been published today.

When we published our
five-year Corporate Plan in 2019, we set out ten infrastructure-related outcomes that would drive our work in support of Scottish Government’s National Performance Framework.

Working towards those outcomes, today we have added 23 more case studies to our Outcomes Report, each demonstrating the progress we and our many partners are making to maximise the positive social, economic and environmental benefits from infrastructure across Scotland.

To further illustrate the more tangible outcomes of our work, we have produced a short video that features the work of our Asset Strategy and Workplace team, and in particular the team’s work in support of our recent office move to a building owned and occupied by the Scottish Legal Aid Board, a non-departmental public body responsible to Scottish Government.

Latest phase of £2bn Learning Estate Investment Programme announced

On Monday, Scottish Government announced details of 10 local authorities awarded funding in the third phase of the £2bn Learning Estate Investment Programme (LEIP).

This latest addition takes the total number of schools in the programme to 47, which is managed by our Learning Estate team.

Stephen Long who leads our Learning Estate Team, said: "This new phase will build on the ambition of previous phases by addressing embodied carbon, utilising zero emission heating, creating healthier learning environments and encouraging outdoor learning.”

LEIP follows on from the successful £1.8bn Scotland’s Schools for the Future Programme, which delivered 117 new or refurbished learning facilities across Scotland from 2009 to 2021, which was also managed by our Learning Estate team.

Benefits of collaboration and
co-location clearly seen

Our Asset Strategy and Workplace team has filmed a superb example of collaboration and co-location in action. Staff from the Community Safety department within Perth & Kinross Council have moved into spare office space in a fire station in Perth operated by the Scottish Fire & Rescue Service.

The Council staff now work alongside firefighters sharing intelligence and keeping local people safe. This project is delivering service improvements along with financial and property benefits, aiding the transition to net zero, and enabling more sustainable communities and resilient places.

Net Zero Standard supports delivery of new HES archive facility

Plans for a new ‘world class’ facility for the Historic Environment Scotland (HES) Archive have been approved by Midlothian Council.

The project to convert an existing building in the Sherwood Industrial Estate in Bonnyrigg into a new ‘state-of-the-art’ home for the organisation’s extensive records and archives will now progress with the project aiming to complete in 2026.

The facility is aimed to be the first public building to be designed and built implementing the new Net Zero Public Sector Buildings Standard developed by our Net Zero Buildings team, in conjunction with the Passivhaus EnerPHit standard. This takes into account not only the carbon emissions of the building while in use, but also the carbon emissions associated with the building materials, construction, and maintenance.
