For Information: Implementation of NHS Pathways at East MIdlands Ambulance Service (EMAS)
We are making contractors aware of a change in triage 999 call pathways at EMAS. Urgent patients will be treated as they would currently and go via the 'dispatch' route, whilst less urgent calls that come into 999 will be triaged via the clinical hub, comprising of a range of clinical staff assessing patients based at both Nottingham and Bracebridge Heath. The primary aim of the clinical hub is to ensure that patients receive the correct level of treatment. This could include being dispatched an emergency vehicle, but it could also be that they are signposted to another service, or given self-help advice.
Pharmacy contractors will not see any changes in the way they receive referrals, as these will come through the established route for 111 CPCS, The data predicts that around 13% of clinical hub patients will be diverted via the Pharmacy CPCS route, equating to an average of 8 additional patients per site per year and around 1% will be simply referred to a pharmacy, less than one patient per site per year.
The go live date is 8th November in Lincolnshire and 15th November in Nottinghamshire.
