A contractor recently hired ATI to create a 78-inch diameter hole in an underground manhole for the installation of new pipes. The manhole was situated within a trench they had excavated, and had taken safety precautions by installing a trench box. This trench was about 15 feet below ground level.
Wire sawing versus a large drill big significantly reduced the time required for the job. In fact, the wire sawing process only took half the time compared to what a standard large-diameter drill bit would have. Call us for your next job! 281-819-7470!
HYDRODEMOLITION AROUND A PIPE - ALSO BELOW GROUND!
In a recent hydrodemolition project, we worked around an existing 36-inch pipe inside a concrete lift station that was approximately 30 feet deep. Our goal was to create a sizable 6 feet 6 inches by 6 feet 6 inches opening in the concrete, which was a hefty 36 inches thick. Remarkably, we accomplished this task from a single side.
The operation required us to transport all the necessary equipment in and out of the lift station using a crane. The primary reason for choosing hydrodemolition in this case was to preserve the existing rebar for future use when connecting the new pipe during the concrete repour. It was explained that if we had employed conventional wire saws to cut the opening, special couplers would be needed, and new bars would have to be drilled and epoxied into place.
