For the seventh year in a row, the School of Nursing has received the Health Professions Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) Award from INSIGHT Into Diversity, the oldest and largest diversity-focused publication in higher education. Mitchell Wharton Inducted as Fellow of American Academy of Nursing

Associate Professor Mitchell Wharton, PhD, RN, FNP-BC, CNS, ACRN, AAHIVE, an accomplished educator, researcher, and clinician, was inducted into the American Academy of Nursing’s 2023 class of fellows on Oct. 7 in Washington, D.C. Wharton is among 250 distinguished nurse leaders from 40 states and 13 countries to earn this national recognition of their contributions to the public's health. Nancy Gaden, DNP, RN, NEA-BC, a 1983 alumna of UR Nursing's bachelor's program, was also named a fellow this year. Read more.

Study Offers Rare Look at Antipsychotic Use Among People with Dementia in Home Health Care
|
|
A recent study in the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society found that antipsychotic medications are potentially over-prescribed and used inappropriately among home health care patients with dementia. “We’re looking at a medication that is prescribed with good intentions, but often is not followed up on and is associated with a higher risk of adverse outcomes," said Assistant Professor Jinjiao Wang, PhD, RN, the lead author. Rising Star in Research: Lauren Ghazal Recognized as STAT Wunderkind

Assistant Professor Lauren Ghazal, PhD, FNP-BC was chosen as a 2023 STAT Wunderkind, and was recognized for her research on cancer's financial impacts on young adults and adolescents. The national contest celebrates early-career researchers who are attempting to answer big questions in science and medicine, but are not yet independent scientists or program leaders. Read more.

The School of Nursing community gathered to celebrate Meliora Weekend on Oct. 6, welcoming alumni and friends for annual traditions such as reunions, tours of the expanded Helen Wood Hall, and the dean’s lunch and student poster session. Dean Lisa Kitko, PhD, RN, FAHA, FAAN, presented her research and sparked meaningful conversations at this year's Clare Dennison Lecture, “Caring Across Generations: Aging Well with Family Support."
