Dear friends and partners,

This week, we both celebrated the completion of the new parent center at Vine Street Early Education Center and held this year's first meeting of the Facilities and Procurement Committee to discuss how the District's bond program is investing in projects like this to build a better future for our school communities. As committee chair, my goal is to drive progress toward the changes we want to see in the District by giving the public a more transparent look at projects and plans, and providing input and recommendations regarding the processes and best practices.

We’re also investing in our employees. As labor movements nationwide continue to demand the respect they deserve, it has been an important year for LAUSD to recognize its workforce with historic raises and benefits—and now with the protection of vital healthcare benefits for our retirees, employees, and their families. The work continues to ensure that LAUSD is a place where everyone, from students and families to our employees, can thrive.

Over the past few weeks, my team and I were thrilled to join the ribbon-cutting for the new parent center at Vine St EEC, convene our first Youth Advisory Council meeting of the year, meet students and families at a local community and college resource fair, celebrate BD4 teacher grants awarded by the LAX Coastal Education Foundation, and meet the new principal at Portola MS!
In the Spotlight: A mother-daughter duo taking Region North by storm
Local District West / Region WestMylene and Maddy Keipp are part of the LAUSD family—literally! Mylene, Region North Administrator of Instruction, began her career in LAUSD in 1993 at Jefferson High. This semester, exactly thirty years later, her daughter Maddy started as a math teacher at Taft HS. Maddy graduated from LAUSD's Eagle Rock High before following in her mother's footsteps and pursuing a career in education. They both participate in Students Run LA and both loved seeing Beyonce and Blackpink in concert this year! Maddy is a big fan of K-pop and going out for hotpot, and Mylene loves cheering for both the Dodgers and Padres, from her hometown of San Diego.
