SSN AGM

HUNTING CAMP

Join us at the upcoming Hunting Camp from October 16-20! We'll be setting up a group camp, kitchen, tents/teepees, and meals will be provided. Make sure to have a self-contained camp, but don't worry, assistance will be offered for camp setup if needed. Location is Tkek Yeel Stem. The bus will be at Community Services (300 Chilcotin) for a 9 am pick up. Please arrive at 8:30 am to fill out the necessary paperwork. Looking forward to a great camp experience!

Home Ownership

If so, on October 20th the housing department is welcoming Scott Flammand from First Nations Market Housing Fund. Scott will be available to meet with TteS members privately to discuss financial management, and help guide you in the direction of successful homeownership.

Road Closure

Please be advised that the intersection of Chilcotin Road and Kootenay Way will be temporarily closed on October 18, 19, and 20. This closure is necessary for essential sewer main maintenance and upgrades. During this period, a detour will be in place to ensure traffic continues to flow smoothly while construction is underway. Your patience and understanding are greatly appreciated as we work to improve our community infrastructure.

Please Be Aware... that we’ll still be getting ready for Opening Day, and that means that some of our services and products won’t be fine-tuned quite yet. Modified store hours start Friday, October 20th and a Grand Opening will be hosted in mid-November.

Legal Aid Transition for Indigenous Peoples

The BC First Nations Justice Council (BCFNJC) is inviting individuals, justice and social development workers from Indigenous communities, and representatives from community justice organizations to participate in a discussion about the transition of legal aid services from Legal Aid BC to BCFNJC. They are seeking input and experiences related to the current legal aid system's impact on Indigenous people and exploring opportunities for a new legal aid model. This event is open to all, and participation is encouraged.

Meet Tammy Robertson

It is a pleasure to welcome Tammy Robertson to the Tk̓emlúps te Secwépemc team in the role of Executive Director, Member Services (EDMS). She brings a wealth of experience and expertise from her previous positions to the EDMS role. Her first day was Tuesday, October 10.

Tammy Robertson was a senior City of Kamloops employee for the past 14 yeas. In her role, she saw and worked with her colleagues in most aspects of local government operations. Prior to working at the City, she was the Executive Director of Operations at Rocky Mountaineer, Tourism Manager with Venture Kamloops, and worked in the hotel industry and with non-profits. Tammy is strongly committed to openness, honesty, humility, and respect, which will serve her well as the EDMS.

Drug Alert - Kamloops

Interior Heath has issued a DRUG ALERT for Kamloops after a sample was found to contain higher than average concentration of both fentanyl and fentanyl analogues and extremely high amounts of benzodiazepines which are very long lasting. Exercise extreme caution when redosing as the effects from the benzos will be cumulative and are much longer lasting than those from fentanyl. Expect prolonged sedation. Do not use alone. There is a potential risk of overdose and a potential risk of fatal overdose.

  • Looks Like: Grey Powder
  • Sold as: DOWN
  • Contains: 48% fentanyl, 3% fluorofentanyl, 0.38% carfentanil and 11% etizolam
  • Risk: High risk of overdose, high risk of fatal overdose. Amnesia, sleepiness, nodding out for a long time. Overdose may not respond to naloxone.

Roundabout: Construction Activities on Shuswap Road and Sun Rivers Drive

Please be advised that on Monday, October 16, Senlé7 will be implementing a revised detour to facilitate the construction of the roundabout structure. The detour will include a change in traffic pattern and continued reduced speed limit to 30km/hr. West bound traffic will be traveling over the red stamped concrete. Please expect traffic delays and exercise additional caution for the safety of the public and construction workers.

Note that the roundabout is not yet functional, please obey all posted construction signs.

CER Community Engagement Session

A Vote to Amend the CER will take place at a GBM in the new year. All meetings will be 5pm - 8pm in the Assembly Hall at Chief Louis Center. Dinner will be served.

Respiratory Illnesses

A gentle reminder that it's the season for respiratory illnesses. If you find yourself exhibiting cold or flu-like symptoms, please consider the health and well-being of your friends and family. Maintaining social distancing and wearing a mask can go a long way in protecting those around us. If you plan on visiting Tk̓emlúps te Secwépemc, masks and hand sanitizers are readily available at all entrances for your convenience. Our dedicated custodial team is also working hard to clean and sterilize all office areas and common spaces.

In the interest of everyone's health and safety, we kindly request that if you're feeling unwell, please refrain from attending community events. We all play a crucial role in safeguarding our well-being, and together, we can make a positive difference.

Consultation on Proposed Health Information Legislation

The Ministry of Health and the Province of B.C. is inviting First Nations title and rights holders to participate in consultation and cooperation sessions on proposed changes to the Health Information Management Act (HIMA). These sessions will take place on October 19, 2023, from 1:00 PM to 3:30 PM at the Coast Kamloops Hotel & Conference Centre. The Ministry is engaging with First Nations to address challenges raised during town hall meetings in 2022 and intends to develop policies in collaboration with First Nations before new HIMA legislation is drafted.

Day Scholars

Day Scholars Settlement Class Members can apply for an extension until January 4, 2024. Individuals who attended Federal Indian Residential Schools as a Day Scholar have a four-month extension to apply for compensation.

K̓wséltkten Kristmas

K̓wséltkten Farmers & Artisans Market is calling on makers, bakers and growers to be part of our 3rd K̓wséltkten Kristmas. Date is Sunday, November 12th at the Coast Kamloops Hotel & Conference Centre. Market hours are from 10 am to 5 pm.

As there is a limited number of booths, vendor spaces are available on a first-come-first-served basis. Please email Tina at kwseltkten@cfdcofcifn.com or phone at 250-214-2436 for further information. Vendors need to have their application completed, sent in, and fees paid BEFORE they are considered as registered.

Location for Drive-In

Attention private landowners! The Kamloops Film Society is looking for a more permanent location for the Twin Rivers Drive-in Theater for the next 3-5 years. They need a 3-4 acre location from July to September, ideally within 30 minutes of Kamloops. If you can help, please contact Dušan Magdolen at dusan@thekfs.ca.
