Have an Allergy-Friendly Fall, Y’all!

Fall can be a busy season for families. Kids with Food Allergies (KFA) has several resources to help you focus on fall fun as you manage your child’s food allergies and related allergy conditions.
Updated! Allergy-Friendly Candy Guide
If you’re looking for candy for fall festivals, holidays, and events, check out our Allergy-Friendly Candy Guide. We’ve updated it for the fall, complete with a printable handout you can take shopping or use as a reference.

Field Trip Fun
Now that school is in full swing, many schools will be planning field trips. Read our blog post on tips for successful field trips with food allergies.
KFA would like to thank Enjoy Life Foods for sponsoring our Allergy-Friendly Candy Guide and our “Successful Field Trips with Food Allergies” blog post. These are sponsored posts and not an endorsement of any company or its products, nor is it a guarantee of a product’s safety. The funding we received for this sponsorship helps support our no-cost food allergy programs.

Eczema and Allergies

As we transition to fall weather, your child’s skin may need extra care to prevent eczema flares. Too much or too little humidity in your home can worsen eczema. Keep your home’s indoor humidity level between 30-50%. This will help prevent dry skin. If your home has too much humidity, it can lead to mold growth and more dust mites.

Dr. Dave Stukus answers common eczema and food allergy questions for Eczema Awareness month:

Fall Seasonal Allergies

Ragweed pollen, mold, and dust mites are common reasons for allergies to worsen in the fall. Symptoms from these allergies can be similar to symptoms from food allergy. And for some people, ragweed pollen can trigger symptoms in the mouth or throat after eating certain fruits and vegetables. Be sure to talk with your child’s doctor about their symptoms and make an allergy action plan. Learn more about pollen, mold, and dust mite allergies at aafa.org.

Save Time and Stress with Meal Prepping
With school, sports, and fall activities filling up your schedule, meal planning and prepping can help save time and reduce stress. Our community members have been sharing their meal-prepping tips. Join the discussion on our online community and share tips of your own.

When you plan your meals in advance, check out KFA's Safe Eats® Allergy-Friendly Recipe Collection and the Allergy-Friendly Foods catalog. Both allow you to search for recipes and foods by allergen, category, and more.

Solutions for Afternoon Snack Time
Don’t forget the snacks! Prepping a snack area and teaching your child how to choose their own safe snacks can help them learn self-management skills and independence. Read our ideas for helping your child choose their own snacks.
