Dear <<First Name>>

With great sorrow, we learned of the death of longtime LLI member Linda LeGendre on October 5. Linda served as chair of the Curriculum Committee, producing many courses herself. She inspired others to become involved and to develop new and innovative courses for us. Linda worked tirelessly to ensure quality content and motivated teaching, enhancing the overall LLI experience.

Her children, Amii and Paul, are inviting all LLI members to a celebration of her life on Saturday, October 14, at 2:00 p.m. at Christ Church Episcopal, 7423 South Broadway, Red Hook. A reception will follow at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Parish Hall, just across the road at 7412 South Broadway: https://pp.events/aar52rpA. A Zoom link to the service will also be available at https://llibard.zoom.us/j/82703422990.

When LLI members learned that Linda was dying, an outpouring of praise, gratitude, and admiration for her spirit and her life followed. Mary McClellan, who took over as interim chair of the Curriculum Committee, said, “She always gave more than could possibly be expected to bring courses to life and fulfill the mission of LLI….Maybe we can, each of us, quietly and alone, take time to ponder the spirit and dedication that Linda offered to LLI and to the world and channel that into our actions moving forward.”

Many others wrote to express their gratitude, shock, and sorrow and to send their condolences to her family. As one commented, “She will be missed.”

Linda was also an active member of the DEI/Social Justice Team. Barbara Danish and Laura Brown, who chair the team, wrote, “Friends, there is no way to say how much the two of us loved Linda, how much she meant to us, how much she has given all of us at LLI through her tireless, creative, imaginative, and bold chairing of the curriculum committee. She welcomed all and brought her curiosity to every class that was proposed and developed; she had incredible generosity that we all have benefitted from.”
