COLLEGE OF BUSINESS NEWSLETTER - NOVEMBER 2023
DEAN'S MESSAGE
Hello Everyone,

We had a wonderful Fall Open House on Saturday, October 21st. Many prospective students expressed interest in starting in the upcoming spring and fall semesters. I had the pleasure of presenting at the kick-off in the OSU, along with COB students Ella Johnson and Marina Melgar, to well over 600 parents and students. Ella and Marina did a wonderful job and even stayed after the meeting to talk with visitors. I am extremely grateful to all COB faculty and staff who welcomed visitors in the BIT Building and contributed to the day's success: Leslie Boni, Mary Anne Majadillas, Chi Chun Chou, Sharon Hua, Amado Mabul, Cate Liu, Tess Lou, Karen Ruiz, Alexander Oborsky, Angel Gonzalez, Alexis Lee, Paige Viren, Morgan Steele, Joel Ryman, Mary Jo Zenk, Lauryl Gonzalez, Maj-Britt Kimm, and Susan Harker.

Our faculty have been busy researching, authoring, and publishing their work in high-ranking academic journals. Please check out our College of Business Faculty Highlights webpage to see the list of articles published this fall by Angel González, Sharon Hua, Jenny Lin, Angeline Nariswari, James Schaap, Gary Schneider, Sumadhur Shakya, and Heiko Wieland. Congratulations to our esteemed faculty on your outstanding contributions!

Finally, I would like to personally invite everyone to attend the CSUMB International Responsible Business Social Impact (IRBSI) Symposium on Thursday, Nov 2nd. This event will celebrate the research of both students and faculty, along with a rich discussion on responsible business practices and social impact centered around ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance), Artificial Intelligence, and well-being.

Warmly,
Dr. Marylou Shockley, Ph.D.
CSUMB College of Business Dean (Interim)

COLLEGE OF BUSINESS NEWS

The symposium on Oct 11 - 13 successfully brought together a diverse spectrum of experts, enthusiasts, entrepreneurs, policymakers, educators, and community-based organizations focused on the forefront of drone, automation, and robotics technologies. Notably, Marylou Shockley, Dean of CSUMB's College of Business, highlighted the value brought to the region through the collaboration with DART, under the leadership of Josh Metz. Their partnership, in conjunction with CSUMB's Institute of Innovation and Economic Development (iiED), has significantly raised awareness of emerging technologies.

The James Irvine Foundation has granted $1.95 million to the CSU Monterey Bay DART initiative. This funding will boost job quality and economic mobility in California through strategic partnerships and highlights CSUMB's pivotal role in advancing technology and economic prospects in Monterey County. Read the full story here.
