Craftsbury Energy Committee News
Window Insert Program:
Thanks to over 60 volunteers and window insert recipients for building 260 window inserts for 45 homes in the Craftsbury area!!!
We would also like to thank the Outdoor Center for providing their indoor space for building the inserts!
Through several grants, 120 of the 260 inserts went to households that may not have been able to afford to buy them. Plus, Efficiency Vt. offered a $100 rebate if you buy 3 inserts, which essentially paid for 2 of the 3 inserts.
You can see 5 inserts being used at the Town Clerk’s office.
Besides keeping homes warmer, an average 3’ x 4’ insert saves 10 gallons of fuel oil per heating season - a big savings! You can sign up now to get your inserts for next year!
This workshop is held annually the last week of October at the Outdoor Center and is a great social affair. If you are interested in being a part of one of the big community events of the year, let us know and/or look for our posting next year at this time.
Firewood Program:
We received another 24 cords of log-length firewood from Vt. State Parks and Rec. Dept. this past spring.
Including the emergency stores of 6 cords last winter which were used up, a total of 20 households received 27 cords of firewood in 2023. We have 9 cords of split wood ready for emergency fuel this 2023 - ‘24 winter.
A big Thank You goes out to over 55 local volunteers plus numerous Sterling College students and Outdoor Center athletes who have cut, split, and delivered the log-length wood over the last 4 years!!!
Plus, a big Thank You to the 14 people who have borrowed or brought their log splitters to the program!!!
Craftsbury Library Solar Project:
Vince O’Connell has been exceedingly instrumental in installing a roof-mounted solar array with a battery backup for the library. We now have a second, large battery for greater reserves when the grid power goes out and necessities like internet are needed.
Municipal Energy Resilience Grant:
Craig Taylor is navigating getting an Energy Assessment for the Town buildings and follow-up weatherization of the buildings, made possible through a grant program with the State of Vt.
