What a whirlwind! After many months of planning, the “Big Show II” is here. On November 5, the MVAA will open the doors at the Charleroi Area High School Auditorium to proudly present the many facets of our local Mon Valley talent. Whether it be the young Reg’t Fife and Drum unit, the vocal renditions from the “VoiceZ on Fire” show choir, the huge community band “The Sam Bill Legacy Band” or the 21-piece TC Jr. Band, the MVAA showcase will be a complete array of the artistry and talents of young and old from the entire tri-county area. Sponsored by the EQT Foundation and the Frick Financial FCU, there will not be an empty seat in the house. Special thanks go to MVAA President Annette Buffer and the hard-working MVAA BOD who carefully crafted a talent showcase to highlight all phases of our students. Tickets are available in advance or at the door. Thank you, everyone – It will be a great show!

The Mon Valley Academy for the Arts (MVAA) is thrilled to announce the return of their highly anticipated annual talent showcase, "Big Show II," set to take place on Sunday, November 5, 2023, at the Charleroi High School Auditorium. This year's event promises to be an unforgettable experience, featuring captivating performances by all MVAA groups, including the Regimental Fife & Drum Unit, TC Jr. Stage Band, the Sam Bill Legacy Band, and the Voicez On Fire show choir.
"Big Show II" is an event that celebrates the remarkable talent and dedication of the MVAA community. The show will showcase our students' outstanding abilities and the passion and commitment of our dedicated instructors and staff. We invite everyone to join us for an afternoon of entertainment and inspiration that will undoubtedly leave you in awe," said Mark Smith, CEO of Mon Valley Academy for the Arts.

- Date: Sunday, November 5, 2023
- Time: Doors open at 2 p.m. Show starts at 3:15.
- Location: Charleroi High School Auditorium
- Pre-Show Entertainment: MVAA instructor Brad Wilson will perform on the bagpipe in the auditorium's lobby before the show.
- Showtime: The showcase will begin at 3:15 p.m.
"Big Show II" tickets are available for $10 in advance and $15 at the door. To secure your seats, you can call 724-565-1687 or email info@monvalleyacademyforthearts.org. Tickets can also be purchased at the Peter J. October Happenings at MVAA South

The Mon Valley Academy for the Arts (MVAA) hosted an exclusive painting workshop on October 21 at the Peter J. Daley Cultural Center (MVAA South) in Brownsville. Renowned Bob Ross certified instructor Denise Sullivan led the workshop.

This event provided participants with a one-of-a-kind opportunity to be instructed by Denise Sullivan, a highly regarded artist and educator who has mastered the Bob Ross technique. For five hours, attendees were guided step-by-step by Denise in creating their exquisite landscape paintings.

It goes without saying that the Mon Valley Academy for the Arts Board of Directors profoundly appreciates the talent, time, and dedication that the Twin Coaches Jr. Stage band has demonstrated this year. For the past 9 weeks, the 21-piece band has been diligently practicing every Sunday to get ready for the November 5th “Big Show II” concert at Charleroi Area High School. Not only do they juggle their school studies, sports activities, high school band parades, and football games, but they also find time to rehearse the difficult charts that are presented to them to do a fantastic show for the public. Kids Yoga & Mindfulness Afterschool Program

Prepare for a transformative journey of peace and self-discovery with the Kids Yoga & Mindfulness Afterschool Program. Led by certified Kids' Yoga teacher Stephanie Kishel, this program is designed for children aged 5-12. It kicks off on September 5th, 2023, with two weekly sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Peter J. Daley Cultural Center (MVAA South) in Brownsville.
In these classes, kids will dive into the enchanting worlds of yoga, meditation, and mindfulness, fostering a sense of peace, self-awareness, and confidence in their daily lives. The program combines interactive music and games to make the experience joyful and engaging while helping children discover their inner selves. Each class offers a unique blend of movement, creativity, and relaxation, providing an ideal space for kids to unwind and connect with their emotions.
Stephanie Kishel, a certified Kids' Yoga teacher and passionate business owner, leads the program. The MVAA is a 501(c)3 nonprofit arts organization that offers an eclectic array of programming and events, including musical instruction, art exhibits, a free summer concert series, and the opportunity for youth in grades 7-12 to perform with the Twin Coaches Junior Stage Band. The mission of the MVAA is to provide arts and cultural programs and activities to the Mon Valley and beyond that informs, entertains and engages this community and the region in lifelong learning and cultural experiences for all ages. The MVAA is operated by an all volunteer board of directors, with each member bringing their unique talents and experiences to help the organization to grow and thrive. The MVAA is funded by individual donations, grants, and corporate sponsors, and maintains a virtual storefront where they sell musical equipment that has been donated to the organization.
