What's On This Week

Since we are unable to use the Carnaby Community Room at Moerlina tomorrow 1st November, and with Zoom meetings being discontinued, we will instead hold what used be called a "Fireside meeting" at PP Di Collins' home at 6.00pm.

Such meetings started back in the early days of Rotary for members (and now include partners) to meet in a home and chat about the big world of Rotary, asking questions anyone might have on any aspect of Rotary, not just the projects supported / carried out by the Club. Plus it allows for fellowship outside of the regular meetings.

PP Di plans to organise some pizzas and quiches, so would appreciate members advising of their attendance or apologies ASAP, to give accurate numbers to work on.
Happy anniversary to Hamid & Shahnaz on November 5th!
Report from Last Week

Our club meeting for 25th October 2023 saw our member, Rotarian Bev Lowe, give an update on the projects she is involved with through Moort Care.

The recording of the meeting is available to view on Facebook.

Some of the wonderful hand-made items produced for those in need - from packages for new bubs to shawls for those undergoing medical treatment to keep warm.
Government House Open Day Devonshire Tea

Over the weekend of 28th & 29th October 2023, members and friends of our club put on a Devonshire tea at the Government House Open Day.

This was the first time we've done a Devonshire Tea rather than a sausage sizzle and it proved very popular - so much so that we nearly ran out of supplies on Saturday, and had to urgently seek more!

A huge thank you goes out to all those that helped - we appear to have raised around $3,600 for our efforts.
School Awards

Now that we are into the final school term for the year, preparations for the School Awards are currently underway.

So far we have confirmed that we will be presenting awards (a certificate and $50) to students at:
  • Dalkeith Primary School
  • Hollywood Primary School
  • Loreto Nedlands Primary School
  • North Cottesloe Primary School
  • Mt Claremont Primary School
  • Our Lady of Grace Primary School (2 awards)
  • Freshwater Bay Primary School
  • Swanbourne Primary School
Interplast

This year, Interplast supported two talented Anaesthetist Registrars from Airlangga University in Surabaya, Indonesia to visit Australia in order to access new opportunities to develop and strengthen their clinical skills.

Dr Mumpuni and Dr Karamoy are the 2023 recipients of the Ballarat-Surabaya Anaesthetics Scholarship, established by former volunteer Dr John Oswald and funded by The Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (ANZCA). Through this scholarship, they have participated in the ANZCA Annual Scientific Meeting in Sydney, and undertaken a series of placements with the Ballarat Health Services and The Royal Children's Hospital.

During their placement, the recipients were exposed to new values and ways of working that they look forward to taking back to their cohort and colleagues. Dr Mumpuni identified interdisciplinary teamwork as a key takeaway from her experience.
