A new direction

94 Forward initiated a new strategy on April 1, 2023. You are a part of our journey.

We are building a generation of Canadian sporting talent. Victoria, and its community, are central to that strategy. We are working directly with athletes and coaches. We are designing and delivering programming. We are bringing athletes and coaches from across Canada to Victoria.

This is Issue 2 of our new (almost 😊) monthly newsletter keeping you in touch with what we are up to and what’s going on.

Triathlon Development in Victoria
August 22-31

Four development stage athletes and Coach Gary Pallett from Triathlon Manitoba joined us for a 10 day pilot Training block run by Master Coach Pat Kelly. Three other speciality coaches joined: Houshang Amiri (cycling), Marilyn Arsenault (running), Neil Harvey (swimming), providing invaluable technical instruction. Local athletes from coach Kelly Guest’s training group joined for drop-ins ensuring a blended group.

This pilot was complimented by a Formidables session featuring: Bruce Deacon and Carolyn Murray. An all parties end of camp Dinner at THE LOCAL’ included Doctor Mike Conrad, his wife Dr. Shireen Alam and Billet families the Riemer’s and Dennis’s, special thanks to Jeremy Petzing and Roger Robinson for hosting us.

Dr Conrad is the new medical advisor for all 94 Forward multi-sport activities that will happen in, for and by Victoria.

This pilot helped 94 Forward develop a blueprint for 3 additional Triathlon projects that will happen in November, February and May.

Here’s what you need to know

🏅 Mandy Marchak & Sarah-Anne Brault are Formidable!

The Formidables are a group of past athletes who have represented Canada. They have strong ties to Victoria and the Legacy of the Commonwealth Games. They trained here, and attribute much of their success to the advantages provided by Victoria. They are affiliated with 94Forward because they are motivated to stay connected to sport and to share their insights with current and future athletes.

Mandy was a member of the National Rugby Team and played in 3 Rugby World Cups.  Sarah Anne Brault competed in the Rio Olympics in Triathlon.

Both took part in the triathlon training block and met with the visiting athletes.  Sarah Anne attended the dinner at the Local and Mandy had lunch with the training group.  Both Sarah Anne and Mandy are from Manitoba.
