Welcome to our latest update!

We can't believe it's nearly November already. With the festive season just round the corner, in this issue we reveal our new 2023 Christmas Cards. If you're looking to send a friend or loved one a Christmas greeting this year, please consider purchasing some of our new look cards.

We also look back on Stoma Aware day, and share our exclusive interview about life with a stoma, with artist Tracey Emin, and invite you to share your tips on coming to terms with stoma surgery.

We love hearing from you so please do get in touch with us with any comments or suggestions for your newsletter.

Most people  have heard of Tracey Emin, the high profile outspoken artist famous for works such As Hotel International, and Everyone I ever slept with.

But perhaps not all our readers will be aware that Tracey has had a stoma since 2020. Tracey had radical surgery to treat squamous cancer, which led to her having a urostomy.

Back in the summer we were lucky enough to interview Tracey about her experience of being ill and life with a stoma. You can read it online now here

Halloween is on the horizon, and for many it's the scariest day of the year!

We know that the thought of Stoma surgery can be quite a scary experience for many, so we've asked followers of our Instagram and Facebook accounts for their tips on how they came to terms with their stomas, in the hope that it will others to manage those post-op days and weeks.

There's plenty of time to add your tips too, or have a browse of people's feedback so far. So why not pay a visit to the post on our Instagram or Facebook pages.

A big thank you to everyone who took part in Stoma Aware Day 2023!

It was a really positive day that saw a record number of companies, and individuals taking part, while engagement across our social media accounts and website were also the highest ever since we launched Stoma Aware day.

However we still need your help to Smash Social Exclusion.

Issues like the lack of stoma friendly toilets can make everyday activities like meeting friends for coffee, going shopping, or attending sporting events not just difficult but sometimes impossible for ostomates. The lack of awareness in society about stomas and hidden conditions can also prevent ostomates from accessing accessible facilities for fear of abuse.

Your donation can help us to continue campaigning against social barriers like these. If you would like to support us, please click the link
here. Thank you.

You can also join our growing army of Stoma Aware Stars who are campaigning in their communities to bring about more Stoma Friendly facilities. If you'd like to join them please email us with your postal address and we will pop a Stoma Aware pack in the post.

An eakin seal for every ostomate.

Our parent company, Eakin Healthcare, has been helping prevent leaks and skin irritation for ostomates for over 40 years with its range of eakin® seals. We are excited to let you know these are now available to sample through Respond!

What is a seal?

A seal is a ring-shaped appliance that can be applied under your baseplate to provide an extra layer of security, with the aim of preventing output from coming into contact with the skin around your stoma.

Using a seal as part of your daily routine is a small change…but it has a big impact. Click here to find more and request your eakin® seals sample.
