There are a lot of great conversations happening on the KFA site right now. Join the conversations below or start one of your own.

What Age Can a Child Self-Administer Epinephrine?
How do you know when your child is old enough to recognize the symptoms of a severe allergic reaction (called anaphylaxis) and give themselves epinephrine? The answer can be different for every child. One community member would like to hear how other families knew when their child was ready to self-administer epinephrine during an allergic reaction.

How Do You Talk with Your Child About Their Food Allergy?
Food allergies and allergic reactions can be tough topics to try to explain to a child. A member of our community would like to know ways you have had this conversation with your child.

An Allergist Answers Your Questions
Do you have questions about food allergies? Send your questions to our Ask the Allergist service, hosted by the Asthma and Allergy Foundation (AAFA), the parent organization of KFA. Here are some recent Q&As:

KFA is fighting for policy changes that would help people better manage food allergies and build a safer and more inclusive future. We are driving efforts to:

  • Expand access to epinephrine for all trained individuals at the federal and state level

  • Ensure emergency medical kits on planes contain easily administrable epinephrine through the Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) reauthorization

  • Encourage the Department of Treasury to require food allergy labeling of alcoholic beverages

  • Work with the FDA, food manufacturers, allergy experts, and other stakeholders to develop a standardized, mandatory precautionary allergen labeling policy informed by science

  • Require food allergy training for personnel in schools and child care centers

 You can make a difference!
