                      President's Message

To say that the last couple of months have been a grind would be an understatement. From various types of meetings to several days of negotiations, we often wish for fewer of these obligations to connect with members more frequently.

Last Friday March 1st was a huge reprieve from the grind as we got to see members at a couple of events. The first one was at another installment of our
Ponderings & Potations event which took place at Overtime Bar & Grill in Chelmsford. The second opportunity was at the Beef ‘n Bird Sports Bar & Grill where our Status of Women Committee hosted its second annual Porketta Bingo in support for the Sudbury Women’s Centre. It was great to see many members at both events and to have a chance to reconnect.

February was a productive month on the negotiating front. The Educational Support Staff Unit (ESSU) ratified their agreement with the Rainbow District School Board (RDSB), the Teacher Bargaining Unit (TBU) reached a tentative deal on February 26th, while the Occasional Teacher Bargaining Unit (OTBU) did the same on February 28th. Members of those units will be voting on these deals the week of March 18th. The Professional Student Services Personnel Unit (PSSP) reached a deal on March 4th, will begin their ratification process on March 19th. Finally, the Sudbury Student Services Consortium (SSSC) is set to begin negotiating the week of May 6th.

The last item I want to highlight is the Annual Meeting of the Provincial Assembly (AMPA) which took place from March 9-11 in Toronto. AMPA is the provincial annual general meeting where delegates debate policy and resolutions to move the Federation forward. We want to thank members of the District 3 delegation for giving up their weekend to represent all of you at the convention: Sarah Cormier (TBU), Stephanie Daoust (ESS), Linda Ecclestone (ESS), Cindy Harbottle (ESS), Laurie Lamothe (OTBU), Katrina Ross (TBU), and Dan Watson (PSSP).

We hope that you had a restful March Break.

Yours in Federation,
Eric Laberge
District President

Katrina Ross,
District Officer.

District 3 held another sold-out Porketta Bingo event on March 1st at the Beef 'n Bird in Sudbury. Lots of meat was won, but the big winner of the night was the Sudbury Women's Centre.  This year, over $6,300.00 was raised for this charity!

A big shout out to Sherri Winsa, and the District 3 Status of Women members, for their time and dedication in organizing this annual charity event.

The Women's Centre wasn't the only winner last month!

Lisa White (ESSU - Lockerby CS) was the winner of the contest in the February LINK,  and was presented with a $50.00 LCBO Gift card.

Mike McQuarrie (Teacher, CVDCS) attended the Ponderings & Potations gathering at Overtime Grill on March 1st.
His name was drawn for the door prize - a $50.00 Gift Certificate from Canadian Tire Store.
