Despite our team’s diligent, round the clock treatment of BonBon’s persistent eye ulcers, a non-healing ulcer on her right eye became complicated and our Bend Equine veterinary team determined that the best course forward for her was enucleation (eye removal).
BonBon’s surgery was successful, but upon returning home, she became inappetent. This was likely due to geriatric sensitivity to change/stress, leading in turn to secondary liver inflammation and dehydration and further inappetence. She went back to hospital to be treated with with supportive care including IV fluid therapy, gastroprotectants, parental nutrition, acupuncture and pain medications.
BonBon is back at the ranch and we have all hands on deck to help her through this difficult time. In the meantime, her medical bills have pushed beyond $5,000. If you would like to make a contribution towards her care, you may do so here or through our Central Oregon Gives campaign below. We are very touched by all of her supporters donating and cheering her on - thank you!
