55 YEARS OF IMPACT: OUR JOURNEY & FUTURE

What began as a list of artists and scientists scribbled on the back of a napkin has grown into a global, transdisciplinary network of scholars, artists, scientists, technologists, engineers, and thinkers spanning over 135 countries. Leonardo/ISAST is building a creativity infrastructure to reimagine systems and transform futures. You're invited!

A COLLECTIVELY IMAGINED METAVERSE

The Leonardo CripTech Metaverse Lab commissions premiere at Gray Area Festival 2023, 𝙋𝙡𝙪𝙧𝙖𝙡 𝙋𝙧𝙤𝙩𝙤𝙩𝙮𝙥𝙚𝙨, was an incredible success. Each lushly imagined and rendered prototype, while conceptually and aesthetically distinct, was centered on the plurality of disabled experience and community. The panel discussions offered a rich set of perspectives from the artists, designers, developers, and organizations on building with creative access in mind. MAKING SPACE EXPLORATION HISTORY

Following in the footsteps of rocketeer and Leonardo founder, Frank J. Malina, his son Roger Malina’s UTD ArtSciLab team became the second student group to launch the next phase of space exploration history: helping NASA build Virtual Reality (XR) assets and scenarios to use in extravehicular activity research on the surface of Mars. The team ranked 13 out of thousands of entries for the NASA MarsXR 2 Challenge.

Here’s an excerpt from the article, Envisioning Rhythm: Exploring the Visual Dimension of Natural Ecosystems Through Digital Media by Pai-Ling Chang and Peng-Peng Li:

"The third work was called 𝘝𝘪𝘳𝘵𝘶𝘢𝘭 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘙𝘦𝘢𝘭. By removing visible curves and filling invisible space, we revealed the temporal condensation of melting ice crystals. This work showed how natural biology forms and vanishes and the conversion and interdependence of the two processes."
