Tip of the month:
Hurry up and get started, so that you can then go slowly.
That's a line that I have been using more and more when speaking with families who are considering how to think about their plans to transition their business or wealth to the next generation.
It truly is a journey and not a destination, so make the decision that you are embarking on the trip, and then enjoy that trip, savouring all the steps along the way.
And when you need a guide for parts of the journey, know that there are people out there who can be a resource to you.
What's New:
I'll be spending some time November 28-30 in the GTA with some friends and colleagues from Blackwood Family Enterprise Services (BFES).
(If you don't know that the GTA is the "Greater Toronto Area", that's OK too)
In addition to meeting with a number of firms who serve famiy clients, we have one public event in Burlington on November 29, from 4:00 - 6:00 PM.
I'd love to see you there and share more about my recent association with BFES.
The subjects I cover in this space typically have something to do with families who’ve accumulated a certain level of wealth, who eventually get to the stage where transitioning that wealth to the next generation has become a priority.
