The International Symposium on Destination Stewardship took place from November 6-8 at the Canadian Museum of History in Gatineau, Quebec.
Leveraging and learning from previous and existing initiatives, the Symposium brought together over 45 global thought leaders, stakeholders, knowledge holders, and 250 attendees, from diverse sectors for a first-of-its kind discussion on redefining the role of tourism and destination stewardship.

The Honourable Soraya Martinez Ferrada, Minister of Tourism and Minister responsible for the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, delivered opening remarks at the welcome reception on November 6.
The Symposium opened with an intimate fireside chat between bestselling, internationally beloved travel writer Pico lyer, and Destination Canada’s Senior Vice President Gracen Chungath.

David Allison, founder of the Valuegraphics, revealed the undeniable power of shared human values in connecting people.
President of Strandberg Consulting, Coro Strandberg, provided an inspiring talk on business and tourism as a force for good at #ISDS23.

Dr. Jiaying Zhao’s session examined the connections between economic well-being and environmental stewardship, showing how sustainable minds can create sustainable futures.
Leading the panel, "Harmony with Nature: Biodiversity, Resiliency and Co-Existence," were Antonious Petro, Executive Director of Régénération Canada; Jeremy Sampson, CEO at The Travel Foundation; Kevin Bixby, Co-Executive Director of Wildlife For All; joined by moderator Alison McKay VP of Destination Management at Destination British Columbia.

The Symposium welcomed Chief Clarence Louie, the longest-running Chief in Canada who has led his Okanagan community for nearly four decades. Chief Clarence Louie shared his valuable experience on sustainable business and socio-economic development in his enlightening keynote, “Preserving Our Past By Strengthening Our Future.”
JP Gladu, founder of Mokwateh, was joined by Stephanie Clovechok, CEO of Discover Saskatoon, at #ISDS23 for a panel discussing the “Evolution of Indigenous Leadership In Canada.”
