Dear Praying Friends,
Several months ago, I received an email from Eddie Roman of Living Waters Ministries and the Way of the Master TV show.  They wanted to produce an episode of their show here on Tahiti and asked us to help with location scouting and introduce them to various churches and ministries on the island.  When Eddie and his wife Carri visited in July, we spent two days with them and made fast friends.  In early October, the production team came and trained Tahitians in personal evangelism and then filmed their public evangelism events.  We thoroughly enjoyed working with them. The Tahiti episode will broadcast next year.

At the same time, our long time friends Nick and Theresa Turkovich visited us.  Nick is a board member of Evanelia Tahiti and we have been friends since 1979, meeting through a Christian outdoor ministry in our hometown of Concord, California.  While we enjoyed the island together, the true highlight was the rich Christian fellowship that filled every hour.  Nick and Theresa both took part in our several ministries: English Club, Bible studies on Tahiti and Moorea, and Nick even shared the Sunday message at Eglise Alleluia in Papeete.  It was invaluable to have Nick observe and analyze what is happening here with our efforts.  The Turkovich's have long enjoyed the Living Waters YouTube channel, and they were excited to meet the regulars from the show.  We celebrated Theresa's last day here by swimming with humpback whales (and a big hammerhead shark who wandered by!).

The greatest need that Nick noticed was a need for male leadership. Already we are discussing a men's conference for next year.
Last newsletter we introduced you all to Timeri.  She is doing very well in her role, helping us develop our organization locally. She is organizing meetings and events, developing social media in French and eventually Tahitian, checking our translation of Bible study materials and more.  She is also diligently studying to improve her English so that she can interpret for guest speakers from the states.

The Lord has given us even more help, now from Nelly Tumahai.  Nelly has expertise in the legal and business realms and has volunteered to become our chief of operations.  She has put together our application for our local non-profit, which will soon be submitted.  Her wise counsel has been a timely blessing.
Introducing Nelly brings us to our big news: soon we will have a local organization: INSTITUT BIBLIQUE de POLYNESIE, or Bible Institute of Polynesia.
Our "Thanksgiving" list:
  • We are grateful to have received news from the High Commissioner that our visas have been approved for another year.
  • We are grateful for more and more Tahitians who are loving our Bible studies and wanting to collaborate with us in practical ways.
  • We give thanks for our marvelous, wise, and generous support network in the USA and around the globe.
  • We are grateful for our wonderful Savior Jesus Christ, Who gave all.  We serve a Great Savior.
Our prayer list:
  • Please pray for the initial leadership board of Institut Biblique de Polynesia.  We have an excellent, virtuous, and motivated group of four Tahitians and two Americans.  We have much to do, and the obstacles remain the same as from the beginning: tradition, legalism, and biblical ignorance.
  • Pray for our USA non-profit, Evanelia Tahiti as we seek to shift our organization from a private non-profit foundation to a regular 501(c)3.  This will enable us to broaden and deepen our support base.  Dealing with the IRS can be challenging.  Pray for the swift approval of our application.
  • Pray for our proposal to the mayor of Hao to help relieve their overcrowded primary school classroom.  We desire this to be a channel for discipleship and further ministry.
  • Pray for a new wave of Operation Christmas Child events on many islands, including Huahine, Raiatea, and in the Tuamotu archipelago.  And also for several towns on Tahiti, including Punaauia, Paea, Toahotu, and more.
  • Please keep praying for the small group on the Roadless Coast.  We are still waiting for the open door to return there.
  • For the visits of Moses Onwubiko in April, and Jim and Phyllis Myers in August, that the Lord would begin to prepare the hearts of our beloved island people for their message and teaching.
Please check out our updated website! www.evanelia.org.  It has pictures, videos of worship, and literary quotes about the islands where we serve!  There will be regular updates as the Lord unfolds our work here, as well as videos of teaching and ministry events, and interviews with the islanders we work with.
