It’s Time to Buy Your
Blankets for Picnic Land!

Picnic Land Banner Graphic

Kids Playing at Picnic LandIf you and your friends/family plan to join us in our attempt to break the world record for the Longest Continuous Picnic Blanket, now is the time to purchase your blanket at picnicland.org!  Be sure to get the same color for everyone in your group so you can sit next to one another. The blankets measure 9 x 10 feet, and your $40 fee includes the blanket and admission for four. After the picnic, the blanket is yours to keep!

All picnic blankets will be laid out on the lawn and awaiting your arrival in Flora Wylie Park. Just sign in and you’ll be directed to the color you reserved. You can bring your own picnic, pick up your pre-ordered charcuterie box from Lolita’s Wine Market, or choose from the participating food trucks, which include Maggie on the Move, Latin Lunchbox, Sweet Island Snow (snow cones) and more.

The event promises to be great fun for all ages! Participants can relax to jazz performed by Al Downing Tampa Bay Jazz Association, Henry Ashwood and more. Sun Coast Storytellers will offer entertainment to the kids and the young-at-heart, and Great Explorations Children’s Museum will be on site with lots of fun activities for the younger set.  The Global Love Project will bring the sidewalks to life with colorful chalk art, and anyone interested are welcome to contribute their artistic love. Best of all for the kids, Santa Claus will be there to visit and hear their Christmas wishes!

Waterfront Park In St. Petersburg, FLAll proceeds from Picnic Land will benefit the work of the Waterfront Parks Foundation, which works to preserve, protect and promote St. Petersburg’s beautiful downtown waterfront parks.

This is the best time of year to be outside in St. Pete, and there’s no place better to be than in our lovely waterfront parks. It should be a glorious day, and we want to celebrate with you. So reserve your spot now at picnicland.org.

Join the Picnic Land Challenge
in the Remora app

Pack a Plastic-Free Picnic graphicOne of the best ways to protect our precious parklands is to keep them clean. If all our participants pack a picnic that doesn’t contain throw-away plastic, we will keep Flora Wylie and Tampa Bay safer from the dangers of single-use plastic.

We have teamed up with Eckerd College to create a Picnic Land Challenge using the Remora smartphone app! Here’s how it works:

  1. Download Remora from the app store and sign up today to start tracking your uses and refusals of single-use plastic.
  2. Join the Picnic Land Challenge (with code picnic) to see who can refuse the most plastic. Tag your park location while you’re tracking at the event.
  3. Share the access code with friends and family and monitor everyone’s progress on the leaderboard.
  4. Stay tuned after the event for the results!

Be sure to visit the Remora tent during the event.

Keep using Remora after the event to monitor your own plastic uses and refusals and contribute to a global dataset that will inform business practices and policy decisions. This is a project funded by the EPA Trash Free Waters Program rooted in St. Petersburg and based at Eckerd College.

We Appreciate Your Vital Support

New Bench Swing at Flora Wylie ParkFrom the park cleanups to the floral beds; from the new benches and park swings to improved park lighting, Waterfront Parks Foundation couldn’t fulfill its mission to preserve, protect and promote our jewel on the downtown waterfront without your support. Since 2012, we have relied on generous financial and volunteer support to augment the City of St. Petersburg’s efforts to keep our parks an attraction for all. Everything you give makes a difference.

We especially appreciate the generosity of the Majeed Foundation, which has been instrumental in the creation of many projects. Currently, the Majeed Foundation plans to match every donation up to $1 million to fund the Waterfront Parks Foundation’s goal of permanently funding the planting of seasonal flowers beds throughout the parks. So right now, whatever you donate We also thank all of our sponsors for this event: The City of St. Petersburg, Great Explorations Children’s Museum, Tampa Bay Watch, Sun Coast Storytellers, Al Downing Tampa Bay Jazz Association, Blue Bell Ice Cream, and  Communicasting Studios, as well as our entertainers: Henry Ashwood, Justin Lucci, the Storytellers, and of course, Santa Clause!

If you are unable to attend this event, you can still support us! We need volunteers for a variety of projects and committees for which we welcome your time and talent. You can hold a fundraiser to support our work! We’d love to chat with you if you’re interested. We encourage you to spread the word! Tell your friends to join our mailing list and attend our events. And we welcome and appreciate your financial contributions. For more information, please visit waterfrontparksfoundation.org
