THE EMPOWERMENT ZONE

Texas Governor Greg Abbott and parents from across Texas are fighting for a statewide education freedom program. Over 30 states already provide K-12 scholarships or Education Savings Accounts (ESA) that allow parents to send their children to the education option that best meets their needs and abilities. It’s time for Texas to catch up! Ensuring that funding can follow students will help the state’s students with disabilities, who have been served poorly by the public school system; eventually expand options in rural areas; and provide opportunities for students who are trapped in failing schools.

Giving parents options and financial flexibility alleviates many of the issues found in public schools. School choice increases parental involvement, provides safer environments, expands direct accountability to families, and improves scholastic achievement for all students. Education freedom is needed now more than ever as union-controlled public schools continue to fail many students and families.
